Time to think about the "best of the year."

For me, this year has been dominated by Dreamcatcher and their Sahara was the best of 2020:

Best MV of the year, from the best album of the year that was packed with great tracks. From fun J-rockish Tension to completely unique tracks like Red Sun, Jazz Bar, and Black or White, their album Dystopia: The Tree of Language was wall-to-wall amazing. Their singles Scream and Boca also got a fair amount of attention and it's great to see them getting bigger in Korea.

There were a lot of great releases from solo artists. Perennial favorite Sunmi's PPorappippam was great, as was another former Wonder Girl, Yubin's Me time. Hwasa also had a couple of excellent solo releases with LMM and Maria, and I've been playing Hyolyn's Say My Name a lot.

But the best solo release (and nearly the best song overall) of 2020 was BIBI's Restless. She had a great year in general with Kazino and rounding out the year by featuring on Heechul and Min Kyunghoon's Hanryang which was another great track spawned from a variety show.

I'm watching a bit of Songs of Tokyo 2020 on NHK World and BABYMETAL... WTF? They sound awful. They dance awful.

nice, see they performed Gimme Chocolate, i love that song. not for everyone though, and i see they performed Papaya too which isn't as good imo.

this song from woo!ah! came out in November, but it was a b-side so i missed it. it's just getting a MV now though and the song is great:

especially love the lower, more natural toned vocals.

BIBI covering Se So Neon's Nan Chun:

one of the best soloists covering a great song by one of the best korean bands.

More J-rock than J-Pop, but Band-Maid premiered their music video for "Warning!" today, from their new album "Unseen World" and it is pure fire! Wow! They just keep getting more and more brilliant!

comeback for mah girls:

another dramatic shift in style, but still putting out something that sounds distinctively like dreamcatcher. also a sign that they're doing better than ever as the production value for this MV is significantly higher than their others. for me the only real negative is that Dami's rap break doesn't hit as well as they did in Scream and BOCA.

Kyary has a new song out

Her annoying voice kinda limits the ceiling for me, but Yasutaka Nakata producing bops as always

BananaLemon with another single; it's been a minute for them.

It's decent I guess, maybe it'll grow on me.

Wish they would just dump all 500 of their singles onto a compilation for stream-management purposes though

comeback from the one and only:

this woman, dayum. think it's great, sounds quite different from her other recent releases but still distinctively Sunmi. great MV that translates, thanks to amazing choreography, into a sick stage performance.
