... Would the roster be dominated by Americans, as it's now?

A friend of mine thinks the reason Americans are dominating the roster is because they are the best in MMA, best gyms, best trainers, etc...

But is it not because the UFC is an American company that found it's popularity in the US?

If the UFC was, say, a Japanese company with the same level of it's current popularity, then I bet the majority of fighters would be Japanese, and Americans would be a minority

TL;DR: American dominance in MMA is due to UFC's popularity as entertainment, not that Americans are inherently superior fighters/have the best infastructure

Yeah it was called Pride, and it had majority Japanese fighters/cans. Because of that pride gave us glorious fights of Wanderlei Silva massacring Japanese professional wrestlers

sounds like your question is are there elite japanese fighters in other orgs that would be contending for titles in the ufc if the ufc signed them. horiguchi for one......

I think the Idea here would be that because it is more lucrative and easier to get into the organization we would see a rise of talents because more people would train=bigger talentpool but what makes me skeptic about this is the difference in population numbers if we compare the USA and Japan

PRIDE was in Japan and completely dominated by foreigners

There isn't a county that dominates MMA

Its not really dominated by americans anymore

Are there any American champions right now? I wouldn't say UFC/MMA is dominated by Americans.

Pride was. But it was completely overrated, look at what happened when Cro Cop, Wanderlei came to the UFC. Fedor sucks in the USA. The Referee wears an earpiece

Why does it matter....no1 country controls MMA...

It would only make logistical sense that more fighters from.america would fight in america then abroad cuz traveling aint cheap...but it doesnt mean more is better or dominant...just means more of them...

MMA is an international sport

What about UFC vets who got wrecked in ONE

Take it easy, Chael.

The earpiece thing is funny.

Other than Eddie who do you mean? Vera is the HW champion at more than ten years past his prime, Johnson is undefeated there, Lineker is undefeated there.
