Mexican gloves various brands

I find it very gratifying to be in top shape and train really hard in a well worn great pair of gloves. They are like a well made pair of cowboy boots. They look a worn and beaten but are more comfortable and perform better than any new pair of gloves. Once I get about 100-150 rounds into my gloves, that’s when my gloves really become enjoyable.

Nice @Badoldman , for how long (months/years) would you normally keep using your gloves?
I think I normally use them for 1 year ~ and half, before getting some new ones. Perhaps knowing they still have battle to give, but I would try to donate them and justify myself to get a new pair of shiny gloves - Ha.

I use my gloves until the padding bottoms out or they begin to tear at the seams. I’ve got a pair of Casanova’s that are 1 year old and are my main pair of gloves. I rotate my gloves and clean them with leather cleaner when I change gloves. Like all glove junkies on this forum I have enough pairs of gloves to not have to use them too often. I also coat them in Mink Oil to keep the leather supple. Coat the gloves, especially around the seams and then let them set out to dry out. Keeps the leather soft which is the key to keeping the seams intact. Here are these year old Casanova’s. I have about 200 rounds in these.

Beautiful gloves

@Edgar Martinez have you tried the no boxing no life gloves?

Hey @RDL81 , no I haven't. But I've seen that one becoming very popular in the gyms I follow in Monterrey [the new city in Mexico where I've moved]. Perhaps can add to @destroyer4147 , he seems to be the man here in collecting the Mexican brands :). He is more advanced in the quest of collecting Mexican brands than me.

@RDL81 @destroyer4147 Have you tried the Eddy Reynoso brand?

I don't have enough different brands to call myself a collector.

I haven't tried NBNL, but they were made by New Sporting before, until there was a falling out

I did hear they was being made by NS before who is making them now

Maybe the fight gloves was made by NS, but they training gear was made in Pakistan. Now they advert they training gloves are made in Mexico too, but the manufacturer is unknown.

How are the traditions of boxing gyms there in your countries/ cities? @ericPorkChop
For all of you - like me - that loves boxing and gloves, I believe you would love even more the culture of Mexican coaches and gyms. I'm a corporative employee and practice boxing only as a hobby, which means I used to assist and train with any other common player as me - not much of pro's or underground gyms.
I'd say my coaches in Mexico, is mostly what have got me so much into loving boxing. Like Mexican artisans glove makers are special, coaches also have a very Mexican style "spice". I wish I should've recorded training sessions with the coaches, but unfortunately I only have a few digital content of them.
Probably a different forum and thread to discuss about... :)
I live in San Antonio, Texas. We have many coaches and fighters from Mexico, but I'm not sure about how the culture compares to Mexico. COVID caused my boxing gym to close. They re-opened recently in a much smaller location. I haven't signed up because it already looks too crowded. I just do private lessons with my trainer at the gym on the weekends during closed hours, when nobody else is around. The rest of the time I work out in my garage.

Hii sorry to interrupting, are they mare by ns before and now change?

I have 2 version of them althought they said it’s same. Even when i asked them what the different between champion and challenger, they said same. But when i got them, it’s totally different.

Btw russian boxer caption in IG said their gloves from same manufacture with grant and nbnl. Maybe somebody here can give more detail information.

Nobody knows exactly. Russian boxer supplies at Grant for sure. Even the shape and filling is like Grant before last introduced model.
NBNL had mostly fight gloves that were made in Mexico. At beginning their training gives were from Pakistan. Now it's different and are made in Mexico too, but I guess they use different suppliers for fight gloves and for training gear.
There are difference between champion and challenger. One is horse hair and second is foam.

Do you think grant also change the supplier? I only use old grant. But the shape for the training gloves look different now.

for nbnl, i like to hear your opinion. They said horse hair(hh) and foam with horse hair(fhh), but the real is even horse hair still need foam and latex to wrap the horse hair. So actually both of fhh and hh are same right?

For “champion” and “challenger” i think they are not consistent, sometime i found the same color but they put as challenger, and after they restock it again they put as champion. They told me if champion for metallic color and challenger with normal color.

I have made an order before for champion gloves and they send me the gloves but with challenger tag.

Hey @Endy
I'm not expert in professional gloves, but from what I've been explained after asking several glove makers, my understanding is some glove makers would work 2 types of professional gloves:
1- Filled with horsehair and artisanal polyurethane
2- Filled artisan polyurethane and a soft layer of latex

- They must use Leather free of lead - which I assume not necessary the same for training glove they produce.
- The polyurethane being used is made to last only around 1 fight, it's not a durable one as for training gloves. I was said, this is the polyurethane similar to what Cleto Ryeres professional gloves uses.

Have any of you guys used professional gloves for intense training for several time? Have you got any experience to identify that professional gloves does last much less than training gloves?

I would guess brands like NBNL and Grant that tend to outsource their production, might be moving around different Mexican workshops. As I've heard from Hernandez brand they used to work for them, but not anymore. Similar rumors have heard about New Sporting.

I have used rival pro fight gloves as training gloves and they held up fine to be honest. The protection is only really suitable for pads and light bag work though so not overly practical

I do find it weird that brands like NBNL, Grant and I suppose new sporting move from manufacturer to manufacturer. I'm far from a glove maker or brand haha but I suppose once you have something good you'd strive to keep that quality and reputation and at the same time work with the factory manufacturing my glove to keep them happy to!

I will be honest though, grants don't seem as popular on the professional level as say 10 years ago, don't see it around as much.

Hernandez and New Sporting are manufacturers

Grant, Russian Boxer, NBNL are brands that are not manufacturers, but they are merely brands that were/are manufactured by HDZ and NS at some point, but it's not exactly certain who their current manufacturer is

I don't think that Grant changed his source lastly. Only adapt their glove shape when the three stripe went live.
Russian Boxer just uses the old Grant design now.
Guy who began New Sporting definitely worked in place where Grant gloves were made. But I doubt Hernandez did. Looking at their work they don't seem well made gloves but I tell that only looking at the pictures.

I can't tell anything about NBNL either because I never owned a pair of their fight gloves.

Senor Hernandez (HDZ Hernandez Champs) himself said he made Grant gloves in the past. Edgar can verify this.

Daniel Hernandez (New Sporting) himself also said he makes Grants gloves. Technoir and Scarphe can verify this.

It's been said, and it's also my suspicion, that Daniel Hernandez was an employee (maybe family member) of Hernandez HDZ while they were making Grant gloves, and Daniel might have been the specific employee in the HDZ workshop who specialized in making gloves for specifically for Grant, and when Daniel left HDZ to start New Sporting, he took Grant with him as his client

You are right Ken, doesn't make much sense. I guess I'm saying that, as we've asked to HDZ directly and they said the used to make Grant gloves in the past. From NS haven't received an answer to this question.
Will try having further conversations and see if we can get to the bottom of this, or continuing what has become a quest to play - Ha.
