What are the things Danaher hasn't covered yet?

I can see him doing a self defense 'system'. He's claimed to see people die in street fights as a bouncer and did some stuff with hockey jersey's on fanatics last year, makes sense.

To link this quote back to the OP, I don't expect him to release content on everything, given that his approach is that BJJ is bloated with techniques that are low % and the best way to get results / effective BJJ is by using a systematic approach to only a limited number of high % techniques.
Agree.
I haven't watched all of his instructionals yet, but does he also cover defense?
Does he cover leglock defense or armbar defense in his instructionals about leglocks and armbars.
Or does he consider that, if you know what you need in order to attack, you automatically know how to defend?

He doesn’t cover much defense. I think he leaves that to Garry and Gordon.

Also I think I’ve heard him say before that if you teach a room full of students hood submission skills that everyone will start to naturally build good defensive skills on their own. This is because they get the knowledge of how the submission works and so they can reverse engineer it. Also they just get practical experience from being put in submission holds frequently.

Garry Tonon’s exit the system dvd set is the most comprehensive set I’ve ever seen on submission defense. He covers early and late stage defend every submission family Danaher teaches on his enter the system series. Garry is also honest on there and tells you when a sub is hard to late stage escape.

I don't know what he's covered in each of those instructionals, but based on the list I think these could be covered:

  • Backmount: I know he has back attacks, but if that doens't include gettting the position, riding, escaping, etc... that could be a full instructional.
  • Grips (pistol grip, joystick grip, monkey grip, etc...) and the positional and situational benefits of each. I feel this gets glanced over quite a bit in most instruction. (e.g. "from here you want to get a monkey grip on the collar, then you just [next step]" rather than stopping and breakind down why "You want a monkey grip because... ).
  • He could cover less used alternative guards (spider guard, x-guard, rubber) even if he doesn't generally teach or recommend them you should know about them

Danaher has butterfly (he references it as sumi gaeshi) in Open Guard. He’s got X-Guard and a little bit of spider in there as well.

He goes over back mount retention and a few ways to get the back in Half Guard passing and Pins. I have to imagine back escapes are in the Escapes DVD.

Kenny Florian is a national treassure. Been meaning to catch up with his youtube channel. He teaches some really solid but under discussed concepts.
What always weirded me out with Kenny Florian was how he was able to take down guys like Mishima, Clay Guida and Roger Huerta, all who came from extensive wrestling or judo backgrounds and on paper and even looking at their previous fights, should have been able to comprehensively outwrestle him. Florian reminded me of Nogueira in that respect--a guy that looked like he had horrible, horrible wrestling and was even known for having horrible wrestling, and yet, he repeatedly took him down his opponents, even ones known for their wrestling or judo ability.

My sentiments exactly. And I'd add Joe Stevenson to that list - I remember my jaw dropping when Florian took him down and subbed him in R1. Incidentally Stevenson was another CA HS wrestler who placed in Masters and perfected the art of having no neck.

I read somewhere that Florian dwelled on and learned from his fight with Sherk where he got outwrestled and controlled for 5 rounds. He said he hated being stuck under this huge hulk dude that he couldn't move or do anything to. I guess he worked on his wrestling after that and it showed.

Florian was a guy that could and should have been a champ. Despite the goofiest physique ever he was so damn good. He just had the misfortune of running into 3 forces of nature in still prime Sherk, Marinovich-trained BJ Penn and prime f'ing Aldo.

He should make :

• A Sweeps Encyclopedia

• A Self Defense Series

And a detailed explanation of The classic old school Gracie Pisao (Front Kick) / Distance Management / Clinch / Take Downs etc.

That happened? WTF. Again, just doesn't make physical sense to me.

Goofiest physique ever, exactly. And really, he was incredibly game against all those guys. He was pressing Penn up against the fence, if I recall, for basically the whole fight until BJ finally exploded, carried him to the center of the octagon, set him down and submitted him. Florian was a beast. I never rooted for him, because it pissed me off how he did what he did to wrestlers, but he was darned impressive.

He actually does the "Mendes Money Shot" referenced in the "What's this takedown called" thread.

Granted that was after Stevenson dominated him against the cage but Florian showed excellent scrambling and just kept getting back up, although he did have the fence grab in there that helped. Stevenson was a standout wrestler in HS and JUCO who qualified for or placed in CA state at both levels like Tito, and he'd just earned his BB from Drysdale. Going into this fight I was thinking NFW Florian touches Joe Daddy in the TD or grappling department - only chance is doctor stoppage via elbow cut or something.

But no. LOL I rooted against him too but he kept proving me wrong and after so many "flukes," I realized they weren't flukes and the dude was just super dangerous everywhere. I mean he was subbing BJJ BBs, taking down high pedigree wrestlers and had excellent striking to boot.

Also might be worth posting this old vid of Florian vs. Jeff Monson from 2002. I remember seeing this linked on MMA Weekly or something around 2006 when both guys were in the UFC. It's always been amazing to me Florian was able to retain guard as well as he does, giving up this much size and strength while sporting the physique of Shaggy from the Scooby Doo cartoons. I mean he loses the match on points but never really gets passed and is never flattened out in side control or fully mounted or back mounted. And Monson had just won ADCC and won again 3 years later.

When rolling against this kind of size and strength disparity, I'd be over the moon if I had 0.1% of the guard retention he does.

Yeah, petty as it is, I have to be honest; I hated the idea that a soccer player could develop the ability to consistently takedown top-level wrestlers. It was like a threat to my doggone world view and a blow to my pride. I couldn't stand the idea that someone from the world of "preppy" sports, especially that one, could do that.

That's crazy, just looking at the totality of Joe Stevenson's credentials, and the way heavyweights talked about what a dangerous guy he was to grapple (there was some heavyweight, maybe it was Mir, I can't recall, who said Stevenson injured his foot in practice with an Achilles).

LOL you and me both. According to his wiki, Stevenson won CA community college regionals at 198, wrestling up 2 or 3 divisions because his buddy was at 184. He had top shelf wrestling and grappling and I always rooted for him because he came off as such a good dude.

I think Ryan Hall said seeing Kenny’s physique and the way he fought so intelligently helped inspire him to believe he could pull off MMA.

Unfortunately Diesel Riggs threw Stevenson under a bus and said that Stevenson had the smallest Penis he’d ever seen . All hair . Like micropenis . Sad . Guess they were playing truth or dare with some chicks or something and Stevenson whipped the nub out . I read about Riggs talking bout it somewhere . One hopes Joe Daddy is a grower .

that’s brutal. That’s a hell of a rumor to start.

Damn that's rough. But that actually makes me like and respect Joe Daddy even more now. Didn't he have his first kid at 16 and end up having like 3 or 4 more? Must take some serious skills both in and out of the sack to achieve that with a micropenis.
