Today I felt the power of PEDs in BJJ

Brian Shaw (6'8, 440 lbs and 4X World's Strongest Man winner) also did a recent video grappling with Dustin Poirer, they both let each other start in side control and Shaw is able to tap him out with top pressure, starting at 8:00

Yeah I saw that one. I don't know...kind of looks like Poirier let him pass his guard after he re-guarded...kind of hard to tell though. Definitely would be nasty being on bottom side control of a guy with Shaw's size, strength and athleticism

I know this is all in good fun, but the top pressure tap is also a stark example of how 2-3 guys adding up to 400+ lbs (maybe law enforcement officers?) can get a rib cage compression submission pretty easily on even the toughest of guys. Now if they just hold that compression... well there's a history of these situations being lethal. Weight really does matter in pins.

What make you think Dustin may have let him pass his guard?
He had zero reason to do so and he clearly didn't like being embarassed by an untrained strongman.
I think the pressure caused by Shaw's combination of weight and strenght/power was just too much of a burden for his leg to handle it, that's why he was forced to abort the butterfly hook he had.

I mean...maybe? It's possible.

I've never felt more pressure from a guard than from bottom side control - at least when you have a guard you can alleviate the pressure with it somewhat - although if you get totally flattened and out of the game hanging on for dear life in bottom half guard it can suck pretty bad. Then again, I've never rolled with a 400+ pounder, much less someone of Shaw's strength, so who really knows what Dustin was feeling. It just looked odd to me how he just removed his hook and essentially let Shaw go right back to a much higher pressure position in side control, without really trying anything in the process - I would have expected him to explode into something for giving up the hook - maybe bridging hard or something.

I think he was trying to ghost escape.

Probably felt the cross face start to slip and decided to go for it.
