Dave Leduc banned from MTFL Lethwei federation for clout chasing

Why would you think she was not all that great?

She got arrested by the army for charges which have not been proved and has been denied from meeting with her lawyers or closed ones.

oh wow that's fucked up. To be fair, I don't know too much about her, but I think it had to do with the fact with something she was doing or allowing to happen to ethnic minorities. I think that's what it was, was it Ugyhr? I'm not sure, but it didn't sound good to say the least. It was either ethnic cleansing or something terrible. I can't remember. And I think she lost her honorable degree or something to for that.

But that whole army coup can't be good for nobody man...how did she allow the army coup to happen? Don't they have shared chain of command to prevent that from happening?

You're talking about the the Rohingya crisis and the genocide of that mostly Muslim community. She didn't do much but the real question is "could she?" when it's the army that was behind that genocide, the same army that has now arrested her and took control of the country with a coup. I think it's easy to call her out for not doing much when the army has such power and influence within the country. It seemed like she had to pick her battles and trying to do something would have lead to her disappearance. I guess the army getting rid of her happened now regardless, they're accusing her of having cheated the elections that she won by a large margin vs the military party earlier this year, while they haven't provided any evidence towards that. "We lost the elections by a landslide so she must have cheated, ARREST HER AND TAKE CONTROL OF THE COUNTRY".

Anyway we're going offtopic now on politics, but the situation in Myanmar is terrible with people who try to say something disappearing or getting shot. Many kids were shot by the army too those last few months.

oh yeah I mean I don't know the details, but when shit like that happens, the guy or girl at the top surely doesn't look all that hot, you know what I mean.

But yeah, that sounds really really bad. Hopefully it works out, but unless foreign power intervenes, I doubt anyone would, it probably won't for a long time...

But fingers crossed

So for those who are saying that it's ridiculous he got banned, the reasons go beyond the sport (copied from someone I was reading a post from):

Having lived in SE Asia for years, I can say that it's noto really just about him wanting to fight Buakaw. Myanmar and Thailand have a somewhat tense political relationship - issues regarding disputed territories, every few years it gets violent. As things currently stand, both countries are trying to get along - at least well enough that things don't get violent again.
So when Dave Leduc, who presents himself as this international spokesperson for Lethwei and, by extension, Myanmar, is constantly making incendiary remarks about Thai fighters and Thai martial arts (which are both things the Thai take VERY seriously), he is in effect agitating a situation which he should be smart enough NOT to agitate. The people of Myanmar have enough shit going on right now without having the Thai get pissed off that the self-proclaimed "King of Lethwei" is going after their national heroes.
The MTLF (Myanmar Traditional Lethwei Federation) received a complaint from their Thai counterpart about Leduc's behavior, and they chose getting along with Thailand's Muay Thai community over standing by Leduc. It is probably also worth mentioning that most guys who compete in Lethwei also compete in Muay Thai, and losing that connection would mean a significant loss of income for Myanmar's fighters.

I don’t blame them. Lethwei was finally getting some international recognition after being in Muay Thai’s shadow for decades, in large part thanks to having a Western champ in Douchebag Dave Leduc. Now said douche is truly earning that reputation by clowning a country and sport’s history, all in the name of clout chasing a smaller, over the hill fighter.

It does make more sense in this context. Seems like Leduc is trying to get big fights with social media drama and probably is naïve of the cultural context here. If the ban doesnt get lifted I wonder how this will limit his opportunities to compete.

Because the reason people don't like him is the exact reason he was banned for. People can get away with BS for so long before people get fed up resulting in a ban. Amirite?

Yeah you're right, glad the dude got banned.

Yeah, he kept posturing himself as being Burmese, saying that the Thai's stole 'their' martial art and was essentially larping as a person from Myanmar, appropriating their culture and heritage in the actual sense of the term.
I wouldn't be shocked if the ban isn't lifted if this is just literally the end of his fight career - as he's talked enough shit that I could see Thai boxing promoters just not signing him + of course his MMA career was a flop

Never liked the guy seems full of shit, understandable they banned him after reading through this thread. Now he may be forced to fight guys in his weightclass and will likely get smashed. Just saw what he was saying about Buakaw on instagram this guy really is an arsehole.

He's an absolute cock on facebook, spouting history and generally insulting other nationalities, and calling out smaller guys. With that said, a 2 year ban seems harsh, would much rather see him get smashed in Lumpinee is front of a baying Thai crowd.

go on his instagram he has shit about bukaws personal life
the man is a fucking clown who couldnt make it in high level mma or mauy thai and kick boxing so he went to a small pond to be the big fish fuck him
He made a post about how he lives rent free in Buakaw head but it seems to be the other way around as he was posting about him all day/week

Pretty strong consensus in this thread of people who dislike Leduc and I'm not shocked. His fanboys seem isolated to his social media feeds.
and I cannot stress this enough, his wikipedia page is so clearly written by his wife, who is a journalist. Everyone who has something to do with Leduc has a wikipedia page just via being associated with him, the only burmese boxers with wiki entires were the ones he fought + for some reason his wife and coach have their own fairly detailed pages despite having no public relevance outside of Leduc.

It's essentially a propaganda machine.

So Leduc confirmed it basically, but 'he doesn't care', he doesn't care SO much that he posted about it.

I don't think he'll go to MT or MMA, he's done that before and got nowhere and he's only got older since. After everything he's said about other martial arts and combat sports, just to keep face what I can see him doing instead is launching his own Lethwei promotion somewhere in the west.

Huh didn't realize World Lethwei Federation (WLF) is not affiliated with the main group in Myanmar.
I know there are some power struggles in Lethwei, with old school + old scoring (no decision, needs at least two KOs, etc) VS the WLF, which is led by a Singaporean businessman, who has established a new rule set to attract international audience.

One thing Leduc has going for him is that he is criticizing the Military government, and I suppose this main Lethwei group is affiliated with it. So he might be able to turn that into his advantage.

People of Myanmar are getting fxcked so hard by the military right now, so I suppose they will take any ally they could get including this guy, who is a celebrity in Myanmar.

Alliances are always shifting in South East Asia, so let's see how WLF will respond.
