Well, this is a punch in the balls.

After learning about the Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update, I hear this bit of info I'm surprised I'm only hearing about two days later. This is very big and disappointing news for those, like myself, that CDPR's next game will be another in the Witcher series.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz Leaves CD Projekt Red

"Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has resigned from CD Projekt Red following claims of workplace bullying. According to a report from Bloomberg, CD Projekt Red conducted a workplace investigation which resulted in Tomaszkiewicz being found not guilty of any workplace bullying.

Despite this Tomaszkiewicz opted to resign and acknowledged that he may have caused “fear, stress, or discomfort” and apologized for any “bad blood” that he may have caused. Tomaszkiewicz also confirmed that he will be taking some time to work on changing his behaviour.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has worked on all three of the mainline Witcher games and was the game director for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. Tomaszkiewicz was also the design director for Cyberpunk 2077 and was recently promoted to vice president of game development at CD Projekt Red."

It seems the years of development of CP2077 at CDPR have taken its toll. Hopefully after he works on his now realized flaws they'll have him back for the next Witcher game.

Edit - Now CDPR's quest designer is leaving too.

This reminds me of when Rare was bought out by Microsoft or Bioware was bought by EA, with so many of their original development leaving within the next few years. But in this case its wear and tear due to a grueling development cycle, and its not getting any easier anytime soon.

Top 10 falls from grace. Tbh people should give them a break. They had one flop. Doesnt mean they are bad at making games.

If I don't get a Witcher 4 where I get to create my own character this generation, someone is going to be on the receiving end of a strongly worded email

I'd go all in that's exactly what's in store. They're gonna go KOTORs route and place the game so long before the Geralt era that it's all but removed from affecting it. A time where Kaher Moran was a huge, sprawling estate and Witchers were plentiful. Then your PC is just gonna be another Witcher you create.

That's what I've been hoping for, for years

Fuck nooo. Randomization Cyberpunk2077 characters are the stuff of nightmares.

I hope they just move up one generation to a prequel with Geralt's mentor.

I would love that. I would also love it if they made a game with Ciri as the central character post Witcher 3. I thought they did an amazing job with her

Vesemir is a great character. I'd still prefer to make my own Witcher and choose my own school, but I wouldn't the least bit upset about playing as a younger Vesemir.

I'd love that, really want to play my own character as a Witcher when they were plentiful. There are several schools to choose from, with some legendary conflicts, so the story telling possibilities are endless

I think it boils down to them not being able to handle the spotlight. Even though "The Witcher" is a big franchise, it didn't really get massive attention until the third game. Now they've got all these suits barking in their ears, and it would appear that they merely need to learn how to tell these parasites "no, it's not ready yet. Deal with it".

They're like some indie band who went platinum overnight, and they've all of a sudden got all these other entities telling them how to dress and act n' shit, and they don't know how to handle it.

Not really, dude seems like a dickhead to work with from just excerpt and the C2077 sucks.

You'd be surprised how many of your favorite shows, movies, and games were helmed by Grade-A assholes.

Do you know why they're assholes? Because its their reputation on the line. Practically everyone else is replaceable, but directors take the brunt of a project's success and failure.

A huge success can set them for life, or have them looking for a new career to support their families. 'Nice Guys' need not apply, or they're guaranteed to fail.

That's how it is. Long-term extreme stress on a project in which their futures are held by the success of the final product.

After all that CDPR has been though over the last 5 years, clearly biting off far more than they can chew, over-promising what they believed they could deliver, and severely under-delivering, and being publically humiliated with their reputations in shatters... they have my sympathies.

Plenty of guys are a pleasure to work for an achieve extreme success. You dont need to be an asshole to your colleagues and workers to be successful. These guys are assholes, because they have a little power. Strip that and their ego is crushed. I doubt this guy is gonna make anything more successful than TW3 again [commercially and critically]. He'll just be another asshole that is a 'has been'.

That would defeat the point of the Witcher series.

Hopefully he goes and joins Jakub Kisiel at Kubold and helps him complete Hellish Quart. Jakub was also with CD Projekt Red as Senior Animator and animated Geralt.

Witcher fans - GO DOWNLOAD HELLISH QUART

While the Witcher had mediocre to bad fight mechanics, this is literally the most realistic sword combat in gaming history.

It even has the same music director as The Witcher.

The games take place after the end of the books and are not cannon. They can do whatever they want. The world is intriguing and well-established. Geralt is not a necessity for a good story.

His relationships with the other characters are a central part of the story.
