My big stupid hype trains thread.

If you slow down the sequence, Case punches Souza in the back of the head as he is shooting for the takedown. I know you can lose your eyesight temporarily if you get hit there hence why he grabbed his eyes.
Could be but I remember as a little kid I was playing football as a keeper and tried to get the ball from a striker and dove onto his knee.
Saw black for a good 1-2 seconds.

Updated rankings (I'll add a couple of hype train posts later) Last weeks #13 LW Terrance McKinney signed and debuted for the UFC.

Hugely impressive performance from Souza in subbing Tofiq Musaev. A guy like him who's prepared to pull guard and throw up quick and decisive sub attempts is always going to be exciting to watch. The way he quickly threw up the triangle and had the angle and pressure before Tofiq had a chance to react was Charles Oliveira like.

I really need to see him Vs Shinya Aoki somehow.

My favourite thing about Kai is that he's just fucking violent. There aren't many fighters in the world with the raw aggression and intent to hurt people that Kai has. The way he was throwing bombs on Watanabe from guard to get the stoppage it seemed like there was a willingness to kill if need be. Anything I say about Kai is probably a bit biased because I'm a huge fanboy of his, but I thought it was a great performance.

Still my boy.

Fighters I thought were noteworthy but not quite hype train worthy.

Kleber Koike (31/Brazil/FW/28-5-1) has a lot of the same positives as Souza in terms of working from his back. He did get rocked heavily on the feet by someone who's not an especially hard puncher in Mikuru Asakura though and if Mikuru had half the killer instinct that his brother has I think he could have been in trouble. Really nice finish though.

Herdeson Batista (28/Brazil/LW/16-5) had a pretty banging fight with Vener Galiev who's about as tough a vet as you can face. He got hurt by an illegal upkick, but got himself together to come back and win the fight by stoppage anyway (take note other fighters). He's strong and has good power and solid BJJ. He's now won 4 out of his last 5 fights and seems to be a fighter on the rise.

Altynbek Mamashev (Kyrgyzstan/WW/16-2-1) made it look pretty easy in putting Vasily Kurochkin away. Looked well rounded and dangerous in all areas and didn't really let his opponent into the fight too much.

Loik Radzhabov (30/Tajikistan/LW/14-3-1) continues to be inconsistent, but this was the good side of him as he utterly wrecked Akmhed Aliev in under 30 seconds, leaving him in an absolute heap. With his physical gifts if he can hold it all together he can be a force.

Natan Schulte (29/Brazil/LW/21/4/1) had to work really hard to pull out a win against a tough Alex Martinez but his judo and scrambling really worse him down and ultimately took hold in the third round. If he can get to a position where he can consistently end up in 5 rounders he's going to be a fucking nightmare for people. Unfortunately doesn't make the playoffs this year, but finishes the season on a win, which might be a good time to go to the UFC depending on his contractual situation.

Alex Martinez (27/Paraguay/LW/8-1) gave Schulte one hell of a challenge and this is one of the times where I feel a fighters stock went up even in a loss. His back defence in particular was excellent as he would just not let Natan get hooks on him and kept getting up or reversing position. Really bright future for this kid.

Reinaldo Ekson (32/Brazil/LW/16-5) had an extremely entertaining performance in winning the EFC title against the most hyped African FW Igeu Kabesa. Totally dominated the fight, rocking him on the fight and showing devastatingly offensive and aggressive BJJ on the ground. Given that he's a Pitbull Brothers fighter I think Bellator should pick this guy up, he'd really help the LW division and doesn't seem boring in the slightest.

Was slightly let down by Guliev and Gordeev.

Any plans to watch UFL event from Sunday? It was broadcasted on Youtube so I think it is probably still available there.

It wasn't on my list tbh, there's only so much MMA I can watch. Is it worth watching?

Aoki was the first fighter that came to my mind after watching Satoshi. I hadnt seen anyone with such an aggressive submission game from guard since Aoki. I guess the question is, where do Satoshi and Musayev go from here?

Koji Takeda might be the next guy up, I suspect he doesn't win, but he's undefeated and a solid fighter.

Guess which dummy put cash on Hendricks as an underdog before picking up on the fact that Hamlet is a decorated greco-wrestler in Norway. Odds are even wider now so I can't even say I got the best value on Cory.

Here's to hoping that getting tossed around by Nasrudinov taught him enough to outpoint Marthin. If not, then hopefully Nikolay disposes of Cooper.

If Cory can stay out of the clinch he has a decent chance. Hamlet did get beaten by Modestas Bukauskas, who I wouldn't say is much better than Cory.

I was shocked by how fucking big Hamlet was, in the staredown/weigh-in for his last fight. He looked huge for 205lbs, he's a very decent prospect I think.

Maximov will fight at 185lbs then I guess, when he debuts. Interesting to see who he gets, there's no easy fights there but I'd sling him in there with Antonio Arroyo next month. Arroyo needs a fight, and he's fairly shit with poor TDD.
