What genre of music is best?

Falling into Infinity is still their worst album

A lot of people say that but I couldn’t disagree more. It is actually one of my favorites.

I don’t mind prog but it needs to be done naturally and without upsetting the soul and flow of the music.

I feel like a lot of DT fans act like writing a song in 4/4 is some kind of amateur taboo. There’s a certain pretentious math snobbery akin to that of Tool fans talking about Fibonacci. Lol

So one of your favorite albums is the one they tried to go more commercial with that they all hate.

The record label basically forced them to write short radio friendly songs and nobody was happy with the album.

Except you I guess lol

Oh it’s not just me. All you have to do to find similar sentiment is check the YouTube comment section.

Once in a Livetime is a masterpiece live album which just so happens to have been made during the Falling Into Infinity tour. That’s not a coincidence.

But to each his own... people have thrown the phrase “sell out” at several bands for albums which ended up being quite respected — in retrospect or sooner.

A friend of mine who is a die hard Dream Theater fan actually lists Hollow Years as his favorite song which is — for me — the only song that pushed the limits a bit too far for simplicity.

By the way, many bands — for one reason or another — self-hate and disavow great albums from their past. If you think that is a green light to parrot their hate as a fan, then I would suggest you find a mind of your own.

World music is the best. Afro-Cuban and whatnot. Shit where you don’t know what they’re singing about so it’s more difficult to be critical about.

It's not hindsight or past hate. The band themselves let apologies for the album out in interviews, flat out telling folks that they were forced In this direction by the label, the month it was released, and that none of them wanted to do it or go in a commercial direction and that they were contemplating a break up. The break up talk for a year during the tour is what made the label fuck off and let them do metropolis 2, which is now considered the greatest concept album of all time and their magnum opus, or at least tied with operation mind crime.

Hollow years is one of the only good songs on that album lol.

I love Tool but fuck me some of their fans are very annoying.

IDK man, Rush and Yes were pretty awesome

I don’t know much Yes but my gosh I cannot get past Geddy Lee’s voice no matter how hard I try.

It’s a deal breaker for me no matter how good Neal Peart was. Lol

There's obviously no such thing as a best genre.

Today on this program, you will hear gospel
And rhythm and blues and jazz
