Top 20 childhood albums

May I ask how old you are? I didn't think about Numan till I saw him with NIN in 2009, I loved Cars growing up but didn't know too much of his other stuff. When My Name is Ruin came out a few years ago I was in heaven.

Didn't know he was going to show up so I lost the plot.

This was the gig I was at, I was more happy for Trent than I was for me, he proper fanboyed it. It was wicked.

Don’t tell anyone, but I hit the big 5-0 this year <Eek2.0>

First Monsters of Rock I went to I saw them, they were great.
Flippin love you for Little Angels. Best vinyl I ever had was a picture disk of theirs.

And now I've grown up, I'm a Reznor nerd. I love everything he peddles.
Never got into NIN for awhile because I thought they were a Skinny Puppy ripoff. Wasn't until I gave them a listen after my brother got tickets for us to see them in 2006 during their With Teeth tour here at Jones Beach theater on Long Island.

Instantly became a fan after that gig. The visuals were out of this world. Seen em twice since then.

Trent is now one of my favorite musicians and the soundtracks Atticus Ross and him produce are real quality

I just realized you we both have similar tastes in music.

My wallpaper on my phone is a shot I took of him in Virginia Beach...because the visual's were so mental. It's him with a perfect shadow of him behind. Whilst singing "a copy of a copy of a".
There's a reason he and Atticus have two Oscars. But mainly Trent. I flippin adore Trent.
Couldn't stick him in my childhood though, sadly.

I couldn't get into Trent or Nine Inch Nails when I was kid for some reason and this was in high school around 98 to 02. At that time I was listening to a lot of the older original Industrial bands like Front Line Assembly, Chemlab, Front 242, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb and even Portion Control who are a pioneering band in the Industrial and EBM genres. The original group lasted from 79 to 87. I don't know why I couldn't get into Trent's music at the time but I have a feeling it had a lot to do with me being an elitist when it came to music. Then I saw NIN in 06 for the first time with my older brother Mike who was listening to them as far back as in 1993. I was on a decent dose of acid at the gig which went perfect with the visualizes. Like I said before I became a fan after that.

When it comes to Atticus and Trent my two favorite soundtracks are The Social Network and the soundtrack to the amazing 10 part Ken Burns PBS documentary "The Vietnam War" about the Vietnam war.

That is one brilliant shot. Was this in 2014 when they were touring with Soundgarden because I saw them on this tour too. Soundgarden were brilliant and I am glad I go to see Cornell live at least once.

NIN has never disappointed me live the three times I saw them. The only time I was a bit annoyed was when they toured with Jane's Addiction in 2009 and on our tour date played first and it was weird seeing Trent and company live as the Sun was setting because it took away from the visual aspect. Trent even said he would never headline like that again and I don't blame him. NIN is best watched when it is dark outside to give you the full effects of the visuals

I don't know if you collect and listen to records but if you do and you haven't already you should get the remastered versions of The Downward Spiral and With Teeth. Trent and company took their time to do legitimate proper remasters of both albums and they sound even better now and you can hear new sounds you didn't hear on the original release

I appreciated the recommendations. I'm going to treat myself to DS and WT, I see a Mastodon sticker on your set up too, and is that Batman? I loved Watchmen the movie, loved the graphic novel, but try as I might because he and Atticus did the music for the TV show I just didn't really dig it.

Only seen MAstodon once, but they were flipping great. EDM definitely goes well with LSD, E, etc. I went through that every weekend for years but can't say it was a major part of my childhood being I left home at 16/17ish.

This should be more lengthy but I'm still half asleep. But I really enjoy reading your posts, always have.

@Satanical Eve
the tour NIN did with Soundgarden, I was happy to have seen Cornell as well. I saw him with Audioslave but not with Soundgarden so that was really awesome. Wouldn't say it was a gigantic shock but still sad all the same. He had the best voice in rock.

His voice in Like a Stone....

Eh, I feel honored to know you enjoy my posts. I am same way with your posts. As much as I love this place there are a lot of posters who I just go "Really, you posted this? You didn't reread what you wrote and clicked post.". I mostly see that in the heavies and The War Room.

That is indeed a Mastodon sticker. I never seen em live but that will be rectified when they come around here again. I became a fan of them when Crack the Skye was released in 2009 and since then they've become one of my favorite groups not to mention Brann Dailor is my favorite drummer now. I love his use of the snare. A lot of people didn't like Emperor of Sand but I did and probably because of how personal the record is to me. Mother was going through ovarian cancer treatments when it was released and knowing that as Brann Dailor said. "It's about going through cancer, going through chemotherapy and all the things associated with that. I didn't want to be literal about it. But it's all in there. You can read between the lines." really was the icing on the cake. Thankfully mom is in remission right now. But man it shows you how great of a band as Mastodon is when they create an album that moves you on a truly emotional level.

How was the Mastodon gig and when did you see them? The one criticism many have or I should say had of Mastodon is that they're live vocals weren't great and in the past that was true but now they sound phenomenal

No batman sticker. I am a fan of batman but no sticker. Watchmen is my favorite comic book movie and people can fight me over it. I didn't much care for the TV Show. Music was good though.

Yeah, I was still at home until after my first major job right out of college. Ended up getting kicked out of the house for my drug use and especially heroin. Became a junkie and didn't look back. Rest of my 20's was in and out the hospital, psych wards, rehab, ods and all that fun shit. I'm clean from that shit now. Only psychoactives I enjoy now is cannabis and psychedelics. I ate an 80mg edibles a good hour and a half or so ago and I also took 100ug of LSD. Was cycling right after I took it and well I had to come home. Been sitting here for a good 25 minutes typing this up LOL. Don't want spelling mistakes

@Satanical Eve
I bought Psalm 69 on vinyl a couple of months ago. Because every chick needs a Ministry album in her collection.
I agree 100% and I need to pick that one up. I just realized I have no Ministry in my collection.

Yeah, seeing him was unbelievable and it was shocking to hear how good he sounded. He stayed and shape and took care of his voice.

Unlike Vince Neil. Every single time I watch this video I cannot help but laugh.

People were still using cassettes in 1991?
I remember my grandma had cassettes in her car up until the early/mid 2000s when her next car didn't come with a tape player anymore. She probably still has them tbh

People were still using cassettes in 1991?
yes because majority of cars dont come with a compact disc player. Also compact disc sales were not the bulk of album sales until somewhere in 94. A cassette costs $7.99 while CDs were in the ball park range of $10.99-$14.99

I remember being pretty young maybe 10 and me and my cousin would hang all the time and we would switch from Metallica to Green Day to Kris Kross. lol
