Joe Bourbon’s Basement Pub – A Sanctuary for All Lifters

Seems like I'll become a kid's rugby coach next year. Have any of you ever done any coaching, especially with kids? @NurseKnuckles, don't you coach a bunch of kids?

how young are these kids? I used to coach kids soccer and kids improv. Both of which required me to make the learning and drills fun.

Probably somewhere between 8 and 18, there's a bunch of different youth teams, not sure yet where I'll end up.

There’s a huge difference in how you would need to approach those different age groups. Those younger kids aren’t going to be very coordinated when it comes to their own body awareness and proprioception.

Oh, without a doubt! I'll fortunately be able to get my proper license, which will be a lot of learning, and get to learn lots from the quite successful coaching staff the club has right now. All that before anybody is going to let me coach anybody...

Cutting season just started for me and, to be honest, I wonder how I missed several crucial points of dieting for fat loss for so long...Calorie deficit, manageable timeframe, maintenance period and no magic pill-BS. Works like a charm.

Well that doesn't sound realistic. How can I fix something without a specific quick fix?

But for real, well done. Glad to hear it's going well for you. I'm slowly picking up my training again, and meal prepping. Fingers crossed to start seeing some changes in a week or two, slowly slowly.

I mean, nothing wrong with some clen to kick things off. Just for your mind, you know. (Please don't)
I hardly meal prep when cutting because I usually have the same food a lot anyways and feel like cooking is a real chore if the meal won't satisfy you anyway. That mindset gave birth to some very creative tuna and veggie-bowls and hilariously overloaded ham sandwiches.

Y'all follow Greg Doucette on YouTube? I basically started following his philosophy, which is basically eat low calorie, filling foods. Which is basically how I ate in my 20s before trying all of the paleo/low-carb/keto stuff in my 30s. Those diets are sustainable for me but I can easily add a fuck-ton of fruit and veggies to my diet instead of junk food. I'm eating bread again and am down 15 pounds this year with minimal effort.

My nighttime snacks are either popcorn (when I want salty) or a protein cake (for sweet). I never would have eat popcorn on paleo/keto but it's so good and so low calorie.

Regular popcorn is a go-to for me when I'm cutting back a little. Likewise, I absolutely love sugar-free jelly.

Current priority is getting back into good habits, and staying with repetitive meals - protein shake with banana and peanut butter for morning tea/breakfast, salad for lunch, small bit of carbs/sugar before training in the arvo, then meal prep for dinner.

The biggest thing that will actually make a difference will be cutting the drinking back - which is hard to do when so often in the evenings I just have nothing to do while gyms etc are all still closed. Slowly cutting back a little, as it goes. Working on rebuilding my cellar after emptying it over the past 20 months during lockdowns. If I buy the beer but not to drink, it kinda fills a little of that satisfaction? Idk

Using mayonnaise in the marinade for chicken breast has been a real game changer for me, I stole it off Ethan Chlebowski on YT.
In other news, training on a cut is frustrating as fuck.

Gave the mayo based marinade a hoon last night. Yeah. Not fucking bad at all. This is going to feature in regular rotation, I reckon. Last night's chicken was done with mayo, a squiz of sriracha, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, paprika, and ground corriander. Neat.

In other news, built myself a set of PVC parallettes yesterday. I've also just purchased some gymnastics rings as well. Slowly building up the options available for home workouts while we're still locked down and gymless over here. Hoping to get pairs of 5kg, 10kg, and 20kg dumbbells soon too.

Are the prices skyrocketing in NZ as well? Home gym-equipment got crazy expensive during the first two lockdowns here in Europe...

For brand new gear? No. Shit's always been spendy AF here because we have to import all of it. For second-hand gear? Definitely. People know that others are desperate for options for at-home workouts.

I'd love to get a second-hand assault bike, but that's a bit of a pipe dream.

I managed to pick up a second hand airdyne at the start of the first lockdown, for a fairly reasonable price. I think at the time the owner may not have been aware how long we were going to be locked down for, as he could have charged alot more.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Yanks. Hope you had your fill of turkey and all that!

I wish I had the space for a nice gym setup. We bought our house at the start of covid and didn't know if we'd be able to keep house hunting so we went with a house that was big enough and in a great location but without covid we probably would have kept looking for something a bit bigger. The houses across the street have two-car garages and are a bit bigger overall which would be perfect. But for now DBs in our spare bedroom will have to do.
