So it's finally clicked for me I loathe gloves with round punching surfaces and I love flat ones that allow me to land with my knuckles easier' probably why I disliked my winnings so much and liked the flys so much

So I'm looking for a good bag glove, I know Mexican gloves have flat punching surfaces but I want something decently more protective

So what would be a good bag glove with a flat punch surface

Rival might have what you're looking for.
Their Guerrero series seems to be the only one that leans toward a rounder contact surface, so any of the others are probably good picks.

I actually had some rival rb10s, they were good but padding only lasted a year before they started giving out so I sold it before it was fully gone

Replaced it with those phenom bag gloves which I ain't the biggest fan of tbh

TopBoxer Aliens are pretty flat and protective
Funny you say that I just ordered a custom pair of aliens with beefed up wrist protection and asked for a flat punching surface with grant style padding will see how it goes just looking at other options too

I apologize in advance because I'm about to make a digression in this thread by asking a question, seeing as how I have insufficient karma to make a post of my own. Nevertheless, I will advocate Venum Hammers as having a nice punching surface while also being protective.

And on that note, I have an opportunity to pick up some Venum Shields but don't know if they are worth it. Part of the reason why is due to their also having a flat punching surface considering how padded they are. I also want some gloves that I can use when my knuckles get sore from training. I've been running into situations where my 16 oz Cletos are now leaving me bruised. Not wanting to splurge on Winnings or something like that, I've been eyeing the Venum Shields. They seem to make a really nice pop on the bag, considering they are so well padded.

Anyone have experience with the Venum Shields? They do seem to make a really good fist from the videos I've seen.

Rival, hands down the best bag gloves I've ever had. New ones aren't as good as the older ones (Rb 10s)

Had those, nice but felt a bit weird would like a more traditional glove

Takes a bit bit once used to them they are the best I've had. Nice and hard but I don't like the new ones with the shit straps instead of a leather wrap. The old RB10s last foreve, made to last

Really? My padding was significantly reduced after about a year, still plenty usable but compared to when they were new not even close. Hence why I sold them. Also that double wrist strap provides excellent wrist protection tbh

Are you talking the old or the new rivals. The old I used for years and washed them in the washing machine and a low heat dryer. Only last year did the leather wear through and the strips of rubber start to show and that was just where it cruved around towards the finger tips

I didn't like the new ones with the two straps onto the leather wrist protection from the minute I got them but put it down to being old and hating change. They are a little harder but I haven't used them much so ...

Oh yeah I had the new ones then

Can you expand on the differences between the two I didn't know they had changed

These are my old ones had a one piece leather only wrap like a normal glove. Different feel, maybe a touch softer instide (maybe just my memory and they've had years through the washing machine)

New ones in the photos shows the shit new strap system which is using plastic buckles as a runner for the staps and I cant see that lasting 7 years of very infrequent yse and washing machine/dryer.

That aside itnmight be that I'm just an old man and can't stand change. Was very disappointed when they showed up as I didn't know they had changed

I don't know about the strap on those particular gloves, but on mine (RB11) have lasted for 5 years of nearly daily use and they're still going strong. Wrist support also feels good.
That being said, I've never tried the older version - so I have no idea if that was better.

Cheers , my 10's were the same and still good but I don't see the new ones lasting and once the buckle fails
