Discussion Thread: The Ultimate Fighter 30th Season 2022

I agree lol I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all but Juju looks like a chain smoking diner waitress :D Not my cup of tea lol but she does have the fighting spirit
Yeah, I don't get this talk about Juju or Hannah being hot, I guess it's personal, but that's a pretty low bar for being considered attractive. Hannah has an underbite and a large and very noticeably forward jutting chin. It's kind of the kiss of death, you'd need to have extraordinary other facial features to compensate for that. Juju has a quirky personality and her fight in the house was great, so I'd definitely see her being fun to be around, but she manages to be both squinty and bug-eyed, that dark eye make up or lashes she puts on only emphasis those not so flattering features. Definitely rooting for her to win though.

Good analysis. Predictions are fun. For the finals I'll say Usman vs. Pauga / Neil vs. Brogan.

Men: Mohammed Usman and Zac Pauga.

Usman needs to fight more confidently. If he can do that he should defeat Eduardo Perez. Perez has height and KO power but I don't think he has mastered the ground game. Usman has good defense and KO power. He has also won some previous fights via submission. If Usman fights assuredly and lets it fly he may land a KO or win by decision.

Pauga I think has a more diverse arsenal than Jordan Heiderman. I'm not super confident about Heiderman's defensive skills. While Pauga may be more of a light heavyweight, I think his team (Elevation) is a good one and that experience may help him in the fight. Still, this one's tough to call because I like Jordan's work ethic, size and tenacity.

Women: Brogan Walker and Kaitlin Neil.

Brogan's right hand is sharp. She knocked Guy down with it twice. Her cardio may have faded vs. Guy but we don't know for sure since it didn't go to a third round. Cardio hasn't seemed a problem for Brogan in her Invicta fights. Presuming her knee holds up she should have time to work on the cardio. Right after her victory she said she'd start in on cardio training. I like Gallardo but I feel she may be a bit undersized here.

Neil I think hasn't yet shown her full range of skills on the show. Juju Miller had tenacity versus Guthrie in her last outing. That was my favorite fight of the season so far. The questions are Miller's fight iq and whether she can get Neil down and keep her down. Miller is more of a grappler. Her previous four fights prior to TUF were grappling matches. She's 2-1 in pro mma prior to the show. Neil has more mma experience but her 5-4 pro record isn't amazing. Miller's confidence is high right now. She could win via takedown and grappling. In her previous TUF fight she seemed a bit more enamored with her striking. Against Neil that may be a mistake as I think Neil is the better striker. I'm going with Neil because I think her mental and physical game is a bit more solid.

In my experience from watching TUF (I binge watched it after getting fight pass a few years ago) it's tricky figuring what's an easter egg. For example some thought they were telegraphing Bobby Maximus having success - and he didn't. So I'm going with what I've seen of the fighters this season and prior.

We'll see what happens. I'm excited for all the matchups.

Really solid breakdown for all the fights. You’re also right. For as much as they featured Bobby, they made it seem like he was gonna make some kind of run on the show. He didn’t. If I give Heiderman any kind of advantages, I say his height and length. If he uses his length to pick at Zac and keep him at an arms length to score with his striking, he might be able to get the judges in his favor. Bartling completely was transparent in what he was going to do in his fight with Zac, Jordan is a little less predictable.

You’re right about all your assessments of the other fights. We also haven’t seen Kaitlyn at her full arsenal. She continues to get better each fight.

Based on watching far too much reality TV:
Juju v Brogan & Zac v Usman; Juju & Usman simply because they get an extra few milliseconds in the intro... + Juju's edit in ep1 pointed towards her in the final. Usman's extra intro time & favourable edit may be due to his brother's success

I may very well be wrong of course

Thanks bud. Enjoy reading all the comments and predictions.

I reckon Pauga finishes Heiderman, Usman squeaks a decision over Perez.

At the finale/UFN Pauga decisions Usman then drops back to 205lbs and Perez TKOs Heiderman. No other HWs to get a fight on the card, just the top 4.

Episode 9.

Heavyweights Zac Pauga and Jordan Heiderman clash in the first of the semifinals matches. Pauga is 34, stands 6'2", weighs 244 and has a 78" reach. Heiderman, 30, has identical height and reach and weighs in at 247. They are both 5-0 and both on team Pena.

Pauga has an NFL pedigree and trains with Elevation Fight Team. Heiderman played college football and trains at a small gym in Nebraska. The Coaches' Challenge is axe throwing and it's funny. In a first for TUF they bring in both head coaches for training & cornering. The experienced Vinnie Lopez trains Pauga and Heiderman's coach is excited for it too.

Round One. They circle a bit and land some good strikes. Heiderman scores a single leg takedown and Pauga quickly gets it back to the feet. Pauga has superior distance control and is hitting the harder shots. Between rounds Lopez tells Pauga he's pleased with his fighter's patience and breathing.

Round Two. Less than two minutes in Pauga lands a vicious left hook. Down goes Heiderman. Zac comes in with more. Since Jodan isn't intelligently defending himself the ref has no choice but to stop it.
TKO for Zac Pauga.

Zac moves on to the finals and says he's there to win it. Jordan says he will go back home and keep working on every aspect of his game. They both display excellent sportsmanship.

Next week at strawweight flyweight powerhouse Brogan Walker and experienced grappler Laura Gallardo will square off.

Zac looks very decent, or at least ready for the UFC. I hope he's read that article on the Sherdog front page, & like Jailton Almeida, realises there's big opportunities in the UFC at HW. He'd probably do well enough at LHW but could probably be a top 10 HW within 3 fights, such is the terrible state of the division.

Good luck to Jordan, Zac analysed him perfectly & if Jordan goes away & works on skills rather than S&C I could see him doing well also.

Not the best TUF season in terms of entertainment (nor the worst!) but decent athletically & I reckon we'll see a few of these names around for a few years

A bit worrying Jordan pretty much said he went into this fight with a concussion from the last fight.
Never thought about the problem with that in these shows.
But I am sure he gets paid well for the unusual massive brain damage situation. Or am I?
Likable guy but too tough for his own good and his skill set and athleticism is just not there for reaching the top. Hats of to the guy for going for his impossible dream and then back to a good normal life. It is a good thing to have when you get old! But he better not take it to far..

They really dragged the drunk part out this episode. Decent fight, none of them are world beaters

Thanks.
Have you watched it yet? Interested in your thoughts.
Yeah I watch the episodes pretty much as soon as I can. Not super impressed with the HW talent. Pauga is good and will have a good UFC career I think. I'll be mildly surprised if he doesn't win the whole thing.

The women's side is much more competitive. I think most of the cast will end up fighting in the UFC sooner or later.

Not sure if any of them are future contenders, but Miller, Guthrie, Walker, Gallardo, Neil and Peralta are all UFC ready IMO. Guy and Paprocki probably need more experience.

I have seen Peralta fight a few times and I expected her to win the whole thing. Pretty disappointing performance, and I haven't liked her attitude towards training and her generally poor sportsmanship.

I also think she has a drinking problem which is a major issue if she wants to get to the next level.

Overall it's been an ok season. A few terrible fights, a few great ones. Pena has impressed me with her coaching. Nunes has not.
