1st time experience here. Happened while doing some timed drills this weekend. Was shooting well too.

Buzzer went off, got on target pulled trigger, BANG! Sheet of grey went up, felt like like thumb got whacked with a hammer, or perhaps like letting a big firecracker just go off in your hand?

Fucking unclearable jam.

First thought was, you POS gun.

Checked mirror on the truck, expecting:

Everything fine.

Went back to house and beat the case out.

Narrowed cause down to 1 of 3:

1. Fired slightly out of battery, (note the loaded round check hole).
2. Weak Brass?
3. Double Charge.

I'm guessing #1, but previous shot gave no indication.

The loaded round indicator is rather a large hole. Arguably a design flaw in light of what happened.

Loaded the gun back up and shot another round with it.

From 12 yards draw and shoot one shot each steel. 2.07 sec, all hits!
(better then Steven Seagal Lawman!)

I'm leaning towards the out of battery scenario, these conehead bullets stick out a bit further and ride closer to if not slightly touching the lands in the barrel. Could've been it. Could've been weak brass too I guess.

Never ever had this happen before. These rounds were not hot loaded by any means either, and loading was so slow I doubt it was a double charge.

Reminds me, I need to order a replacement magazine, one in the gun got wasted.

Shot again the following day, but took the HK instead., (that thing is a good shooter)

That's it, another day in Texas.

Bubba's pissin hot hand loads imo

It was also a Springfield xd, it probably contributed.

These were loaded very mild, since it a slimline mode, and since being a 9mm afterall, what's the point.

Likely an out of battery due to the cone shaped pullets riding closer to and sometimes into the lands.

Damn you're lucky you didn't take that in the face sir.
Glad you're ok boss.

We had a guys Sig 220 kaboom on him a few years back. Bad load from the factory. He got some cuts on his hands and around his eye pro.

Was the gun toast or did he go back to shooting it?

The Springfield is fine, just rattles a bit.

I was at Shooters World in Phx, AZ about 12 years ago. Anyways I was shooting a bunch of different guns, and I had a Smith & Wesson 686 357 barrel blow up on me. It was a giant flash, a lot of vibration. Luckily I was all good but the gun was completely destroyed.
