But that is a LOTR thing. Are you confusing this with GoT?

In LOTR, all the top hero's survive the most ridiculous odds, except for Sean Bean, who manages to be the first major character to die in both LOTR and GoT.

That was what made GoT so compelling to many as there was a real feeling of peril for any and all main characters, something rarely seen prior, in many fiction areas.

No way, LOTR's was totally realistic and not a place of fantasy at all...

I haven't watched this. I literally just realized that this show falls outside of the main trilogy and it is based on the lore. Do I need to dig through the appendices of LOTR before I watch this or will that just make me angry?
Don't read them.

The books almost always enrich the tv show or movie as they add layers and fill in blanks. Done the other way, you notice what is missing, changed or lost.

I don't care what they beloved book is, if you go to any TV show or Movie treatment of it, and the main ones who hate or complain about are always the ones who read and loved the source material. Even if the TV is loved by others, those who read the books get irked by changes.

Take the GoT Eyrie. It was widely hated by those who read the book as a poor presentation, something that was meaningless to those who had not read the books.

No one got exploded in a fucking volcanic eruption other than the two hobbits who flew away on magic eagles.
These bozos literally just stood there

So wait. Are you denying what I said or not?

Are you not aware that in the LoTR movies (my all-time favorite) that all the main character went in time after time after time into hopeless odds situations where not one of them died. All the hero's walked out basically unscathed, each and every time.

Are you denying that or unaware of that?

While many long time fans of the LOTR books and movies are a little upset by what they don't feel matches up to the source material, what seems to irk some of them even more is that there are people who enjoy the show.

Shut up bro
Bro not knowing LoTR lore or confusing it for GoT lore is fine. Just own it.

You cried out 'what are the odds' because all the main characters in LoTR lore survived a major event. It was a dumb thing to point at, or giving you the benefit of the doubt, ignorant.

That 'against the odds survival' is core to LoTR lore, just as it was in Star Trek for all but the redshirts.

Wait, I just blew your mind with that last point, didn't i?

Ya i don't care who likes it or not. Taste is subjective and I am struggling with it too. I am just saying as a blanket point, that I've never seen one instance, that i can think of, of a book to Tv or Movie adaption where those who read the books did not have the most complaints, even when the adaption is considered great overall.

Conversely I have never heard of anyone who enjoyed the TV show or Movie who then read the books who complained about the books. It seems to always make it better, after the fact.

what the fuck are you even talking about?
You coming up with the idea that I "don't know Tolkien lore" becuase i'm not making the stupid fucking point you're making is downright autism. I've read a vast portion of Tolkien lore and have been doing so for decades.

At no point in Lord of the Rings, did someone stand there and let themselves be engulfed by ash and fire from an active volcano and live. Aragorn being rescued by Brego, Frodo's mithril shirt, etc is not on the scale as that. This bigbrain point you're making where you say "ACKSHULLY YOU'RE THINKING OF GAME OF THRONES BECAUSE THE HEROES IN TOLKIEN'S WORLD LIVE THROUGH EVERYTHING", yeah, cool man, this story doesn't follow Tolkien whatsoever and the boisterous, stupid rules of this universe they've made are absolutely ridiculous and seeing an entire village swallowed by ash, smoke and fire and having a dozen protagonists is unprecedent in any on-screen adaptation.

You're not blowing any minds, bud, you're just being weird defending a piece of shit show.

^^Posted by someone who literally admitted to blocking me because he thought I didn't like GOT lmao

I'm not reading all that.

It was absolutely clear you think the LoTR lore should involve 'proper odds' for who survives conflict. You cannot deny that by burying it in a wall of text.

LoTR has never, and i mean NEVER, involved any proper analysis of 'odd's' as to whom survives of the lead characters no matter the conflict or challenge they face or how insurmountable it seems.

You are just wrong on that, and can admit it, ...or don't. There is no complaint, NONE, re a character(s) surviving via long and outrageous odds that can reasonably be made against this lore.

This show gets worse and worse in every episode yet I can't stop watching it. Episode 7 was absolute shit. Why is a rock from a mine that is used for body armor bringing trees back to life. Why are they writing this stuff lol. The characters are almost entirely unlikable. Now it's team Galadriel + Bastard.

She chides the kid for "calling dark deeds good" but said she wanted to genocide the entire race last episode. Is she bipolar? These fucks can't remember what they wrote one episode prior.

There's unlikely escapes and there is surviving the pyroclastic blast flow of an erupting volcano, known for turning people into ash.

Are Durin and Elrond supposed to be gay lovers in their past life? That seems to be the angle they're taking with all of the dreamy and awkward silences and talk of relationships. Two men even if bonded as warriors or something don't behave that way.

I'm rewatching The Fellowship Of The Ring Extended Edition for the first time in at least 17 years, and 20 minutes in it really has aged beautifully.

The 4K conversion is damn near perfect.

And one more thing that is absolutely shocking - Each film had an average budget of 93 million, which was more than most for that era of Hollywood, but when watching it you keep in mind 279 million for 11 hours of 10/10 filmmaking... that's practically a bargain.

A simpler time.
A far far better time.
