I'm not sure I quite agree -- Makhmud Muradov is someone I considered a stop down. Remember, when Pereira defeated Petroski, Petroski was undefeated. Muradov, meanwhile, has lost 2 of his last 3 with his lone win coming off of Bryan Barberena. I viewed Potieria to be a tougher test honestly.
I think they just wanted someone ready and available for Pereira. His next fight definitely needs to be a tough opponent though; top 10 ideally but at least a top 15.
He did look damn sharp last weekend. I don't think I'd favor him over O'Malley but I feel he'd do much better than Chito. I am concerned that 5 rounds may be a problem for him.. I really thought he was going to go in against Martinez for a paycheck but he proved me dead wrong.
Where I view takedowns to be an impressive statistic, I view them to be a bit overrated since they often imply that the fighter was umable to remain on top of their opponent. A more relevant statistic in my opinoin would be top control time. Just my 2 cents...
I have to disagree with your assessment on both Pantoja's striking and grappling. I view both to be very good, particularly his grappling; I'd argue it's far above rudimentary. That's just my opinion though and you're welcome to yours Sherbro.
As for how a fight with Cejudo would look? I think...
Agreed, and even if it was a wrestling affair, I wouldn't view that as a bad thing. This isn't kickboxing or bare knuckle. I'm hyped for the fight and glad the match up was made.
So that wasn't a very entertaining fight imo... but damn Aldo is sharper than a razor blade. He made that look easy against a legitamite opponent that I thought was going to win. With his takedown defense, I think he could give anyone a tough time at 135.
I think Aldo wins handily if he actually trained for this fight. However, something tells me he just cut weight and is looking to get out of his contract so he can box. I hope I'm wrong.
