Because:
1. Strength of schedule (Example: Bisping title defense against a 50 year old losing record Hendo is a joke) level of competition you fight is what it’s all about.
2. If that’s the main criteria then title fight LOSSES should also factor in: GSP has 2 of them, and he was finished in...
I’ve always said Woodley has one of the most underrated resumes in the sport and I stand by it. He’s beat top flight opponents at their best. Usman has taken it to another level.
How can you possibly compare GSP’s run to the one Usman is on? I love the fact that his nostalgic fan club always...
The guy is an outstanding champion, like Khabib he’s elevated his game to another level which guys cannot match.
He’s clearly the GOAT WW, I don’t take anyone serious who still nostalgically holds on to GSP. You’re watching history in the making with Usman, just sit back and enjoy.
It’s the Trevor Whitman style he’s adopted. Whitman’s fighters are known for overcoming defensive lapses with offense.
I’ve said for a while now that he’s far more susceptible under Whitman, it’s far but his wrestling and defense has declined.
To be fair Joanna was 2-3 going into that fight... hardly championship caliber anymore.
It’s clear that ESPN was trying to get into that Chinese market by any means necessary.
Granted Usman has gotten better, the fight was a legit draw on the scorecards going into the 5th round.
Colby was also in a toxic environment at ATT(arguably one of his own doing), but he’s got a team now that solely revolves around him. I’d love to see it turn to a wrestling match.
Either...
The only person stylistically I see giving Usman a challenge at the moment is Colby. Let them run it back while the rest of the division shapes out.
Khamzat is about to return, Edwards needs another fight, and Wonderboy needs one more fight imo.... maybe Wonderboy vs Edwards for #1 Contender...
Usman has phenomenal fight IQ.
I still don’t like that marriage with Trevor though, he offers very little in the defense department. I don’t see anyone at the moment exploiting it on Usman but relying on offense to overcome defense is not a good long term success plan imo.
He did much better offensively this fight imo, he just got way too overconfident because of that first fight.
Jorge was doing fine playing the long game, invested a lot to the leg and body rather than use his “blitz” combos to the head. Just underestimated Usmans power and the rolling with...
Stupid mistake, almost frustrating to see. That leg wasn’t on track to hold up by the third. You can see the spring in Usmans takedown attempts was gone in the second.
Again, the casuals and haters won’t see it. But it was a heck of a fight.
He was too worried about the takedown, was worried about the high crotch and let his guard down.
Also the biggest mistake: he underestimated Usmans power. He opted to roll with punches rather than use a proper high guard. Definitely had a chance if it went the distance imo and the haters won’t...
KO’d by a “crotch sniffer” lol
That being said credit to both Usman and Jorge they put on a heck of a fight. Jorge went for broke, worked his way back up from an Usman takedown (which is incredibly impressive) and put himself in the line of fire.
All love.
