Red Instructor Bars on Purple and Brown Belts

Never seen this and I think it's ridiculous imo.

holes in your game preventing you from advancing

Honestly a strong RDLR hook will kill the knee slice in its tracks. By it's structural mechanics it will turn the knee outward when pressure is applied through the hook. Support with your outside leg and bottom arm if needed, like your partner is an aggressive knee slice passer and outweighs...

holes in your game preventing you from advancing

Been playing with x guard recently. It's dramatically improved my ability and confidence in both DLR and RDLR. Takedowns will need to be my next big project though. I'm getting near the end of my purple belt and I don't want to be a brown belt who's only real option is to get taken down or pull...

    Hall vs Penn

Beating a person into "submission" just isn't the same in my opinion. I'm talking about winning via jiu jitsu. You're playing with semantics.

    Hall vs Penn

Beating a dude until his corner quits is quite the accomplishment, and GSP sure put the hurt on BJ in that fight, but BJ has been beaten by others too. Corner stoppage or ref stoppage, it's someone else making the decision for a fighters safety cause the fighter can't or won't. Hall made BJ...

Just looking at the stats, that's the first time BJs been submitted in MMA.

"Leave your Ego at the Door"

I find I will often escape something narrowly, or give a guy a hard time controlling me, and if they ask, I will give them the advice they need to smash me next time. Then they do. I always think as I'm coaching a strong ass blue belt with 40 pounds on me on how to kick my ass "What the hell am...

Got my purple belt last night

Congrats! They say that purple is when you need to start to take more ownership of your own training and direction. It's easy you plateau and I've felt that myself in my time at purple. White and blue felt like pure progress. You can get better simply by getting crushed and tapped. It feels...

    Friendly Challenge from a Co-Worker

I like his initial crab walk approach to the start standing. Claws out and everything. This happens all the time even just in training. Coach at the side of the mats can't see that what he's calling out is completely nullified by a grip that is obscured from his view. I've even experienced it...

"Leave your Ego at the Door"

I was gonna say, like @esteven mentioned, they may just have gotten used to your game. It can be a good indicator that you need to start to expand and play less of your a game and more of your b and c and d paths.

Guys whats wrong with my lower back? Am I screwed?

It's definitely caused me injury I wouldn't have had without it but it's also kept me generally active in periods that I've neglected other aspects of my physical training.

Guys whats wrong with my lower back? Am I screwed?

I have had some lower back issues. Look at your hamstring flexibility. I have very tight hamstrings, and when I let myself get stacked or play inverted anything I tend to allow the flexibility to come from my lower back, which increases the risk of the discs compressing on the inside, bulging...

Getting Promoted in BJJ too quickly :(

I started training in 2010, before I signed up here, so chronologically I could say I've been training for 8 years. I realized recently though that when new people ask me I say around 6 years. I don't know where my brain got that number from but it's what I say. It makes sense though with the...

    Cracked Rib Cartilage :(

I subluxed a rib early in my training. Took probably near 6 months to get back to rolling normal speed, primarily because I would wait 2 weeks, feel a little better, roll, reinjure it, repeat. I can still point to which rib subluxed because if I suck in the gut you can see its slightly forward...

I only want to roll because classes are too boring

I've been involved in that sort of unstructured open mat. It can be great training, and the next week it can turn into philosophy 101 with way too much talking and not enough drilling/rolling. I like a class to still have a designed purpose and a facilitator to manage timings.

Congratulations. I'm just coming back myself from a break in training at purple belt. Taking some inspiration here.

    Roll not to lose...

I agree with pretty much all the advice given in this thread and it all applies, but I personally feel as far as white belt learning goes, I agree with DatCutmans advice the most. I tend to think of my rolling as sessions of live reps. I remember time as a white belt I was getting triangled a...

Social Cannabis Legalized in Canada: Nation-Wide Shortage For Years To Come As Demand Overwhelms Supply

I had a harder time getting alcohol and cigarettes under age than pot. If this eventually makes pot harder for kids to get its a massive win imo. Yeah that's street value here if you're going you buy one or two grams. Most dealers will start to give discounts on even a half quarter ounce...

Social Cannabis Legalized in Canada: Nation-Wide Shortage For Years To Come As Demand Overwhelms Supply

Yeah, that's the other side of it. I have known people who are, well, professionals, and the process of acquiring pot was always difficult and embarrassing for them because they had to sneak around about it. This will be a good thing for them cause they can go to their local on-the-level source...
