In 2014 ISIS surrounded Camp Speicher in Iraq, capturing thousands of young Iraqi cadets and murdering them publicly. Today, the Taliban have surrounded Kabul airport, armed with our weaponry. Our fighting capability has evaporated. If ISIS makes it to Kabul before we evacuate, I fear we might have another Camp Speicher on our hands, but on a much greater scale and with our troops and citizens being involved.

*Mod Note*
This OP preceded the attack, and so has demonstrated impressive foresight. Below was the merged OP first reporting the attack, but very few details were in at that point. As of this mod edit, 11 US Marines, 1 Navy Medic, 1 Army Staff Sgt., and at least 90 Afghani citizens are reported to have died in the explosion.

America needs to have all weapons platforms ready to go. Apache gunships, Predator drones, A-10 Warthogs, etc.

Leaflets and loudspeakers should be announcing that anyone within a certain range of the perimeter will be engaged without mercy. A couple Hellfire missiles should take care of anyone that gets a wild hair.

They can't be having civilians chasing planes down the runways and joining the Afghan Civilian Skydiving Team. Next time it could be a suicide bomber or someone armed with a gun.

Too late they have been gone for awhile. We are at a point where we are either cutting our losses and dealing with the aftermath or we are sending troops back in with the gloves off to clean up the mess.

Either way it will be over within a week I'd say. If we leave people there we will be seeing beheading videos for months to come but even that won't last forever.

You’ve watched too many movies. Try coming back to reality darling.

Oh? Go on.

I guess you've never seen real life "movies" of what an Apache or Predator can do with a Hellfire missile.

Keep living in La La Land.

The Taliban are actually a group that can keep ISIS in check. Isis will have pockets in Afghanistan but they won't take Kabul or major areas.

Their ranks have many sympathizers, but the "management" doesn't want that shit.

^this. It's in the Taliban's best interest to let us wrap things up and leave. They'll keep Isis back for now.

They'll keep them back indefinitely.

The only thing Americans need to worry about is Helmandi Talib. The Taliban are still trying to coalesce power. Groups from the South are moving towards Kabul. These groups fought the Americans for a decade. Many have revenge on the mind.

In an era where everyone has access to the internet in their pocket, that ain't going to happen.

"Engagement without mercy" in a city of 4 million people will lead to the world's largest recruiting video to the enemy.

Don't want to get killed? Don't breach the perimeter. The perimeter isn't a city of 4 million people, it's the immediate area surrounding the airport.

I’m sure that there is a ludicrous amount of firepower on standby.

right to bear arms for me and not for thee.

Cranking it to 11, huh.

There are many players in Afghanistan. No one can be 100% certain one group won’t ally with another. Even if for a brief period of time.

Gonna be very hard to prepare for or prevent massed indirect fire on the airport if the Taliban decides to go that route...
