A defrocked US Roman Catholic cardinal has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy in the 1970s.

Theodore McCarrick, 91, entered the plea at a court in Massachusetts, where he faces indecent assault and battery charges for the alleged 1974 incident.

The former Washington DC archbishop is thought to be the highest ranking US Catholic to face sex abuse charges.
He has previously said he has "no recollection" of any abuse.

In a lawsuit filed in July, Mr McCarrick was accused of groping and abusing the boy who has not been named for years.
The man alleging abuse claimed that one incident took place during his brother's wedding reception at Wellesley College in Massachusetts in 1974.
The victim alleges that Mr McCarrick led him into a room at the college and fondled him. After the incident, the priest allegedly told the man to recite prayers to be redeemed of "sins".
Mr McCarrick is one of hundreds of members of the Catholic clergy accused of sexually abusing children over several decades.
In 2019, he was defrocked following a Vatican investigation into years of sexual abuse allegations against him. He had also been accused of assaulting a teenager in New York in the early 1970s, as well as forcing men to sleep with him at a home in New Jersey while they studied to become priests.

The 450-page report from the Vatican found that the late Pope John Paul II was informed of the allegations against Mr McCarrick, but chose to believe US bishops who had concealed information. It also found that Pope Benedict XVI, who resigned in 2013, likely rejected the idea of an investigation because there were "no credible allegations" of abuse.

I'm no fan of the catholic church whatsoever. That said, I'm not a fan of jumping to conclusions of guilt based on bias and no evidence whatsoever. These allegations are of an occurence that happened nearly half a century ago.

Any one pressing charges from an incident from nearly 50 years ago would be laughed out of a police department, and that standard shouldn't be changed based on the occupation of the accused.

Classic case of 'If You Want To Believe It, Believe It.'

I agree about jumping to conclusions and setting aside bias in matters like this, but appears there have been a multiple allegations and he's already been defrocked by the Vatican. Seems more like a case of "where there's smoke..."

You can't really prove it now, but everyone knows the Catholic Church has had problems with homosexual priests abusing teens.

Abuse in Catholicism is systematic meaning its a system put in place on purpose. Why would the Christian "church" do such a thing? Why would the supposed followers of Yahusha put in place a sick, evil system like that? Well, Ive done research and can tell you exacy why.

Its because the Christian doctrine as passed down by the Catholic church is nothing more than a new age version of the ancient Egyptian/Babylonian, sun worshiping sex cult. All major religions are. They all stem from the Kimetic Babylonian Mystery School System(credit to COJ for the term). Thats why believer should not be religious but instead be obedient and righteous.

Christians should pick up their Bible's(specifically the old testament) and get their families out of all these pagan temples masquerading as churches.

The Catholic Church has been disgusting, but many of the followers and congregations not. I’m not a big fan of the institution. They need to encourage men that want women.

Then why is this guy being laughed into a courtroom to face formal charges?

That's an interesting question.

A 'sexual assault' from nearly half a century ago? Isn't that LONG past any state's statute of limitations for 'sexual assault?'

What evidence is there from a half century ago?

What’s weird is that the no marrying thing happens much later. 9th cent iirc. Meanwhile the Orthodox Church allows priests to marry. It’s intentionally dumb and has created abuse that’s occurred for hundreds of years.
I’ve read about priests being married outside the church in 1000s France for instance. It forces people to lie and game a system that shouldn’t be lied about and gamed

The catholic church is and always been just a global pedophile ring.
