Social An actual image from our congress

Legislation by meme. Some of MTG's gobbledygook that went along with it:

“If the American people actually knew what ... these globalist, America-last policies are, I believe that they would be ringing every single phone up here, probably demanding that Congress go home because America is only safe when Congress is out of session. But unfortunately Congress is in session so let’s tell the truth about what’s happening.”

“This is a simple meme that you would find on the internet. This meme is very real. The Green New Deal – surprise – serves China and China only. Democrats want to turn out the lights on America. They want to shut down our economy, they want to end our energy independence, and surrender America, putting us on our knees, to China, dependent on China.”

I always thought it would be hard to outdumb James Inhofe throwing a snowball to disprove global warming...

...but MTG is up for the challenge.

You have to be a demented progressive liberal, a Cuck, a man who gets his by women and cries...You are a fucking idiot to shit on that brave women.

It's a decent meme, but has no place in something that should be held to a higher standard, but then again the standards for Congress are already next to nil. I'd rather see a silly meme though than have someone thinking Guam could capsize, which may be the gold standard of idiocy in the legislative branch, a silly picture is nowhere near as bad as an absurd thought (not that Greene is free of those). Greene is basically the right's Cortez, but gets less publicity (which is good for the right).

<JagsKiddingMe>
The United States is about 4% of the world's population and emits 15% of CO2 emissions.
China is 20% of the population and emits 30% of the emissions.
India is 18% of the population and emits 7% of the emissions.

Where is this mythical personal responsibility god that the Republicans always talk about? Because no matter what the issue, you guys never, ever think America has done anything wrong. With 1/5 of China's population, we emit HALF of what they emit.
Per capita, we are worse.

And to act like we don't have any power here is nonsense. We have a global, interconnected economy. To act as if we and other nations can't politically and economically force change is obviously untrue. Unless China thinks they can support their economy on places like Russia and North Korea, they have no choice but to go where the economy is going.

"But China does more!" is not a friggin argument. So your thinking is, "fuck it, we've entered a suicide pact with China, and we're just going to fuck this planet until it burns"? This is the conservative plan?

Source for numbers?

Comparing Ocasio Cortez to this absolute moron is ridiculous. One is demonized for being a lefty progressive, but she's clearly not stupid. Greene is a liar and a moron...two things Cortez is not.

You can just google 'Co2 emissions by country' if the source doesnt meet your standards.

I don't get why people don't see this as obvious. How much power do you think you use compared to the average Indian? How many Chinese people have 2 or 3 cars, including gas guzzling SUVs and F150s? How much junk does a typical American family buy and throw away in a week compared to other places? It's pretty obvious who the bigger wasters are.

The comparisons of AOC and MGT aren''t at all apt. A lot of you guys mix up disagreeing with someone's politics with someone just being flat out stupid and clueless.
AOC has just about all of the same positions as Bernie does, and while people call him a Commie or socialist, they don't call him stupid. She literally has most of the same positions. Criticize her speech, being overly emotional, or her personality traits, or whatever, but the comparison to MTG is so far off base when talking about actual positions.

MTG is an objectively stupid and uninformed person. When you're on the floor of the United States house with Scooby Doo memes and think you can win a debate on global warming with the bible and Jesus, what are we talking about here? There isn't an equivalent of this kind of stuff on the other side.

It's not even a "decent meme". It makes no sense. The green new deal is pushing to create more jobs and green industries---something that China is already doing. We would be competing against them. How is divesting from oil and coal and investing in other forms of energy and technology that we would be selling nationally and internationally = Communism?
If people disagree on things like wind and solar power---fine, make that case. But when you say dumb shit like "this is communism/this is what george soros wants/etc."', you can't be taken seriously.

Homework?

I started to watch the video because I thought it was going to be on something related to nuclear energy, not on how much California sucks.
You seem to be under the impression that I am specifically and enthusiastically in support of the Green New Deal and everything in it, with no objections, concerns, or questions---when the reality is, as I have already said, I am for the people addressing the problem, and not for the people that are doing Scooby Doo memes and putting it in God's hands.

I don't want to hear about how much you think the Green New Deal sucks, I want to hear what your alternative plan is.
I am for putting together all of the best scientific minds to find out what we can and should do, whatever that may be. I am not advocating for wind or solar only. I haven't said shit about the actual contents of the Green New Deal.
What I want, is for a serious, adult conversation to be had on this topic. Not memeing and Bible quotes.

I highly doubt you have even read this non-binding resolution, but one of the best parts about it is that it would force public conversations to be had with experts. Committees would have a chance to ask questions, educate themselves, and debate the topic.
If in those talks we discover that "_________" isn't a good path, then we can move on to something else that does work.
But we aren't even having these conversations.

Quick recap for you:
This is your first post that I responded to.
She may be a moron but she's right. Implementing the green new deal would most definitely weaken us economically and militarily which would in turn elevate our rivals comparatively. Just the act of printing that much more debt would put us yet closer to losing the reserve status...its pretty much a matter of time as it is.

Not to mention wind and solar are nowhere near capable of powering a fraction of our countries needs....so yeh blackouts and restrictions would occur.

And this is what I said.
You know what else weakens you militarily and economically? Having to constantly put your resources to reacting to disasters, instead of taking measures to prevent and lessen their impact before they get here. Having to put more guards and resources to a border, because the effects of climate change will cause MORE "illegal immigration". Having to deal with the effects of more fires and hurricanes and floods.

Republicans say this shit as if there is a choice in the matter. You either get on board with what's coming and prepare for it, or wait for disaster to hit all so that you can keep your short term profits and "protect" yourself from boogiemen.
What war does the United States military need to prepare itself for, and how could that possibly be more important than securing clean water, air, and sustainable energy?

My point is pretty clear. That doing nothing but memeing isn't going to solve shit.

I was not surprised at all at the numbers you provided on who pollutes. Obviously we are a major polluter...but we have an extremely high standard of living for our entire population. Whereas the rest of the world plans on catching up.

Our "high standard of living" is unsustainable. Unfettered capitalism is unsustainable.
The living standard has to change, and it will, one way or the other. We can change ourselves, or we'll go until we drive off the cliff.

How'd I know you respond like an idiot? You haven't been following the conversation the entire time. And then you expect me to take 15 minutes of my time to watch a video that has nothing to do with what my point was?

After first 5 minutes he breaks down wind and solar. Another 10 minutes to avoid a lifetime of ignorance isn't a bad tradeoff

You aren't even paying attention to what I am saying in these posts, and you then expect me to watch a guy ramble for 15 minutes about California?
You have wrongly assumed what my position is, and you keep doubling down on it after I have repeatedly told you that you are wrong.

*I never said solar and wind power are perfect and going to solve everything. *I have made no comments about what is actually in the Green New Deal as far as technology goes.
*I don't want to hear you tell me why something is not going to work.

This conversation was about choosing to side with morons like MTG that don't believe in climate change vs. a Democratic party that at least acknowledges the problem and has some ideas. It's that simple.

We can't get into the details of a plan when we have half of the country that thinks there is no problem, and so-called "moderates"/libertarians that think there is no difference between the things that MTG says vs. what something AOC would say on this topic.

You're assuming what I know and don't know based off of your own stupid assumptions of me.
You're accusing me of being ignorant about something that we haven't even discussed.

It's taken multiple back and forths for you to understand my simple position in this thread is that "Addressing climate change = good, Ignoring climate change = bad"

Addressing it doesn't = good.

Addressing it effectively and efficiently = good.

Addressing it like the retards u support want to = disaster

Addressing it like the retards u support want to = disaster
Addressing it > Not Addressing it.

Who is the retard here, when you would rather equate these two very different sides, as if they're both equally bad, instead of moving on to the argument of how things should be addressed?
You keep assuming shit that isn't accurate. We can't talk about problems if we have half of the government thinking there is no problem.
There has been no serious debate on what's in the Green new deal, the goals, or the science because of morons like MTG, and "people in the middle" like you that are just negative contrarians.
