Gas mask probably won't work with a beard.

Also the military should not make exceptions for religion. The military should be secular.

It says no razor used on their head, I think interpereated as touching skin

So I guess trimming it once it’s long enough for scissors or a guide so that clipper blades aren’t against skin it’s kosher?

“I must listen to the Bible and not cut my hair or shave my face!”

“what about thou shall not kill?”

    “ I mean it’s like whatever”

Tho i found your post funny, there are no lack violent passages in the christian religious scripture that can be used to justify everything from rape to murder to war.

At college, was told you can not get a good seal of your face for a half-face respirator if one sports a beard; this guy's beard is long enough that it would matter. A full-face mask may have the same problem because the bottom part rests against the beard.

    This!!

Anyone who works around dangerous chemicals have the same restrictions... Such as in industrial plants

Beards also kind of make N95 masks useless too... lol

I'm a volunteer firefighter and we've had a couple different people come talk about respirators and such. They've always said you should be fine if you glob vaseline on the seal.
But being a firefighter is different than a soldier. You have time to glob the vaseline on the way to the fire where in the military I'm guessing you could have seconds to get it.

Is there a hood that can be used with a mask to provide protection?

Dont think yall realize how much of a slap in the face this is to soldiers that have had to constantly renew their shaving profile or go thru great lengths to keep their chin from looking like a bowl of grits with bacon bits.

Smart ass... Wont be long till a vicious, mean-spirited Juicy Girl fucks his entire world up, he looks like that type of cornball.

You will not have time like that during an NBC attack.

When I was a child, my barber at the time explained to me why beards were not allowed in the military:

"You see, the Roman's wouldn't allow anyone in the legion to grow a beard or long hair, because on the battle field, an enemy could just grab your beard or hair, yank your head up and slash your throat."

That seems like a good enough reason.

No but if they’re deployed or need to wear one for training you can make them shave; the exception to policy doesn’t apply in those cases.

Well, it says he's Christian, not Jewish, so I've no idea what denomination or creed he'd hold to, and how or why they'd apply a Nazarite vow.
As I understood it the Nazarites weren't allowed to cut their hair at all, at least that's always been my understanding of the story of Samson.
Without a temple, and with a literal approach to scripture, it seems like there could only be permanent Nazarites.
Could be something this guy's come up with all by himself I guess.
There are Christian sects (most of which are significantly smaller than groups like the Seventh Day Adventists, and tend to be organised around individuals) that take an Orthodox Jewish approach to Mosaic law.
    Messianic Jews.
Which is the impression I get from the idea of taking a Nazarite vow.
Weirdly enough I've encountered them in Papua New Guinea.
    Can't say they impressed me.
Not to mention abstaining from pork in PNG is a bit problematic, given it's traditional role in cuisine and effectively as currency.
Not sure whether the US military cares whether this guy's beliefs are anything but his own idiosyncratic interpretations.

    What, what says?
Thou shall not kill? Pretty sure it’s the 5th commandment

You’d think a commandment would over rule the other stuff. But what do I know
