International Australia to use facial recognition and geo-location to enforce Covid quarantines

Yawn.

Bit sick of Yanks pretending they know anything about what goes on in other countries.

So from someone in Australia I'll give you guys the lowdown on what's actually happening.

1. Lockdowns worked so well for our island country that we basically eliminated the virus for the most part.
2. This meant that we got no vaccines compared the the rest of the world when they started being produced because we didn't need them.
3. We also have a completely useless federal government without the ability to acquire vaccines or roll them out despite already having systems in place for vaccine rollouts we offer each year for flu shots.
4. This has resulted in us having some of the worst vaccination rates in the world.
5. Then Delta outbreaks have occurred in the two biggest states that haven't been able to be controlled.
6. The rest of the other states are putting in major border restrictions and getting real tough on entry because the vaccines are being reserved for the two states that have fucked up, they're not vaccinated and they don't have or want covid in their state.
7. People within covid free states don't give a flying fuck about imposing incredibly harsh restrictions on anyone entering the state because with piss poor vaccination rates they don't want lockdowns or covid to fuck their economy.
8. This is where your article comes in. SA has millions of people and practically 0 cases. They want to keep it that way for the time being.
9. This won't last very long. The two biggest states are finally going away from case numbers as the determining factor as to how strict the lockdowns are and are now talking a about how vaccination rates will be the determining factor to how strict lockdowns are.
10. This means numbers of covid will go up and eventually the other states will adopt the same inevitable policy.
Basically eliminated it so now you are all under house arrest for no reason?

Its amazing how you can say that as though its better.

"This isn't dystopian at all. All this is an alternative to random police checks on you while you are under forced quarantine for visiting a neighboring city"

Quarantines are one of the best tools for responding to pandemics, and not exactly a new idea.
If that's your idea of dystopia, your imagination is lacking.
We have no community infection here and low current rates of vaccination, so anyone that's not completely braindead and self absorbed isn't too upset about having to wait 14 days at home after visiting areas with high rates of community infection.
The fact we've controlled our borders so well is why only 4 people have died here of Covid and why we've had virtually no lockdowns. The vaccination roll out is a failure, but aside from that we've been fortunate with our geographic barriers and early response in preventing negative effects. Glad I don't live in one of these nations or states run by complete incompetents with deaths numbering in the 10s of thousands.
We value our lives higher than that.

Yeah your government using the military to lock you in your houses is no big deal

I was rooting for them because they took such a hard stance against China. Now they are mimicking China and thighs can get sacrum fast

Yeah it's weird innit. It makes you wonder. Have China decided to shut the fuckers up once and for all by fully infiltrating them and fucking their society up as quickly as possible? Things have gone from zero to Dystopian almost overnight over there, I've never seen an escalation like it.

Yeah I’m not sure if it is Chinese influenced or just the outcome of their own doing. It’s def weird and creepy how fast it happened

They've gone from having full crowds at sports events and people clubbing, to the government ordering fucking rescue dogs to be shot in the streets and facial recognition in the blink of a fucking eye. All it took was some actual covid rates to be spreading in the community, even at a small level. IMAGINE what would be going on in Australia / NZ if they were having 200-500 deaths a day??

If you're talking about the thread topic, you have no idea what you're on about.
Japan's been doing it for a long time. Likewise South Korea and Singapore.

I have a lot of love for Australia and was thinking about moving the family over there awhile back. Thank god I didn't. They've gone full 1984.

My lil brother said they already have folks in this position is AUS for camps they plan on setting up.

Then proceeds to send me this, and they are looking desperately to fill many of these position here in the USA. Can anybody elaborate on this job title. I understand basically its a “correction officer” but the resettlement term bothers me….

We hav

We also aren't the most incarcerated country on earth, Mr Freedom.

Lol. Your entire fucking country is built on being a penal colony. <Lmaoo>

Kind of depressing but that's actually probably not that far off. Pretty much anytime a "journalist" calls something a "debunked conspiracy theory", that means it's about 4-5 months from being true and said journalist will just delete their tweets and pretend like they never said it.

Covid rates are high = We have to give up all of our rights to flatten the curve!
Covd rates are low= We have to give up all of our rights so Covid doesn't come here!

All roads lead to dystopia.

When Covid-19 hospitalization and infection rates crashed, the country opened up. As far as lockdowns go, we are nowhere near as bad now as we were back in March & April of 2020.

You nana you are using these only in the airports for foreign travel?

Yeah think that’s going to far. I understand they closed down and were able to stop any spread. But this level is unsustainable and eventually they will have to face it

and of course, all this technology of biometrics and geolocality will NEVER be used for any other purpose.
like pervasive tracking of citizens throughout their day.
forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical but every new technological breakthrough
involving locating and tracking seems to have a dark, nefarious side IMO.
the abuse of it could lead to manipulations and of course limitation/prohibition of
movement.
So freedomy.
