An off duty Chicago police officer was shot in the back and paralyzed recently.

In reading an article, there was a part I’m confused about, regarding the gun used.
Officers say Hayes walked to his Mercedes-Benz, pulled a gun from his waistband and tossed it on the floorboard before getting in the car, Murphy said.

The gun was a Ruger 40-caliber pistol with a 30-round extended magazine, Murphy said.
"Hayes fires the automatic weapon which fires bursts of several bullets at a time," Murphy said. Investigators recovered 19 40-caliber shell casings.
I’ve never heard of a full auto Ruger 40 cal handgun or anything that would allow one to convert a ruger handgun to full auto. Does such a thing exist or is this more of the news just making shit up?

Whatever it was, it was fully automatic from the sound in the video.

You can convert nearly any glock to fully automatic with a sear kit change. So I imagine you could do that to nearly any pistol.
