Bellator 153 - Bendo vs Koreshkov

For straight lines, I think I gotta go with all favorites on the top 3 fights. Jeremy Holloway at above +500 seems like an okay gamble.

This is a dog card IMO. I will play Primus if he gets closer to even.

someone just parlayed the crap out of MVP, ward, freire, and bendo (the four big faves)

Does anyone use or know anything about http://www.thegreek.com/sportsbook ?

They have Freire at +260....

When I started betting around 1999-2000 Joey Oddessa used to be the oddsmaker for MVPSportsbook.com. They stopped offering MMA lines at some point after the huge fiasco with his error on the Wanderlei/Crocop line and he jumped ship to thegreek.com. I bet there for a little while, winning some money on Tim Sylvia vs Cabbage in their debut I remember. Haven't played there since about 2003 though.

It's clearly a bad line though. Don't touch it.

What did he do?

What did he do?

Pride and K-1 decided to get together to have a couple of K-1 vs Pride fights in Japan during their regular events. Well at the time there wasn't nearly as much MMA coverage as there is today, so there were special rules for the fight that most people didn't know about. It was scheduled for 5 3 minute rounds with quick standups and no judges, meaning that if it went the distance, it was an automatic draw. I was trading VHS tapes with a few different connections I had in Japan at the time so I was well aware of both Crocop, through K-1 and Wanderlei. The general consensus was that Wanderlei would get the better of him on the mat, but with 3 minute rounds, there wasn't much time to finish. Oddessa didn't realize that there were no judges so he set the "draw" line at +1350.

I maxed out my bet @ $500 U.S. and then got a buddy of mine to open an account and he maxed it too, but gave me $300 of his $500 bet. When the fight went the distance, it was declared an automatic draw, so my $800 bet paid out $10,800. I remember reading an article on either Full Contact Fighter or ADCC at the time that said they dumped over 100K with that mistake. It was reviewed by whatever gaming commission was regulating it at the time, and MVP Sportsbook was forced to pay out for their mistake, even though they took about 3 days to confirm it. It was a beautiful payday for me at the time, being around 20 years old and with the exchange rate being what it was, I got my cheque in the mail and after currency conversion it was almost $15K Canadian.

awesome story! man, wish I was 5 years younger when I started gambling.. there must of been so many missed opportunities with mma odds back then.

they are pretty trustworthy from what I've heard, not used them myself though.

It's annoying that Bellator doesn't want my EU money. Give me a way to pay for your fights pls.

Back then the lines were pretty far off in many cases, and alot of it had to do with the availability of footage. You couldn't watch fights online so VHS or certain DVDs were your only options. Pride was usually shown on Direct TV a month or so after the actual event took place and obscure Brazilian and Japanese events were fairly hard to come by for most people, including the oddsmakers. I've been a huge MMA fan from pretty much day 1 so I ended up building a 2000+ VHS collection in a hurry and made some great contacts who would record Pride, K-1 and Shooto events and express ship them to me from Japan immediately.

One of the first events I remember doing really well on was Pride 13. I hit Wanderlei Silva over Kazushi Sakuraba somewhere near +300 and then Mark Coleman over Alan Goes and Dan Henderson over Renzo Gracie on the same card somewhere around even money (Henderson may have even been +130 if I'm not mistaken). There wasn't much confidence among the MMA community at the time in Silva dethroning Sakuraba despite his recent mauling of Dan Henderson.
