Best opening line in a song

I wanted to go to that. I saw them open for NIN and I saw him solo twice and Audioslave like 5 times.

Saw his acoustic show 2x, somehow never caught audioslave, saw soundgarden about 6 times (including at the Hollywood bowl opening for Trent rezner) and temple of the dog once.

That's dope. Yeah his voice was amazing in person, I'll never forget his shows. I won tickets on the radio when they opened up for NIN. We already had two tickets so my friend sold them for beer money and we used the one's I won.

I nominate the song Black Sabbath on the album Black Sabbath from the band Black Sabbath:

[RAIN]
[OPENING RIFF]
What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me
Turn around quick, and start to run
Find out I'm the chosen one
Oh no...

El P said:
"To the mother of my enemy, I just killed your son
He died with his face to the sky and it cannot be undone
He didn't die hard, in the end he just grinned and bowed
Made him dig his own grave at the point of a gun
While he laughed to the gods out loud"

I am an architect,
They call me a butcher

Then as it was, then again it will be
And though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays
On the wings of maybe, down in birds of prey
Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow
But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go

The Gunner's Dream (Waters)

Floating down through the clouds
Memories come rushing up to meet me now.
In the space between the heavens
and in the corner of some foreign field
I had a dream.
I had a dream.
Good-bye Max.
Good-bye Ma.
After the service when you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air
You hear the tolling bell
And touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand
And hold on to the dream.

Queen - In The Lap of the Gods Revisted

It's so easy, but I can't do it
So risky, but I gotta chance it
It's so funny, there's nothing to laugh about
My money, that's all you want to talk about
I can see what you want me to be
But I'm no fool
It's in the lap of the Gods

I pulled into Nazareth, was feeling 'bout half past dead

Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel

The way I see it, he said
You just can't win it
Everybody's in it for their own gain
You can't please 'em all

Joni Mitchell - Free Man In Paris

Via Chicago:

"I dreamed about killing you again last night
And it felt alright to me
Dying on the banks of Embarcadero skies
I sat and watched you bleed
Buried you alive in a fireworks display
Raining down on me
You cold, hot blood ran away from me
To the sea"

I've been stuffed in your pocket for the last hundred days
When I don't get my bath I take it out on the slaves
So grease up your baby for the ball on the hill
And polish them rockets now, and swallow those pills
And sing whoa, space-lord mother fucker!

There must be some kind of way outta here

Said the joker to the thief

"And you stare at me in your Jesus Christ Pooose. Arms held oooouut like you been carrying a load."

RIP Chris. He fucking rips this song.

I'm twenty two now, but I won't be for long

Googled the lines and Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Bragg & Kirsty McCall came up. Presuming Simon wrote a song with them, Bragg started a different song with them & McCall covered the Bragg version. Maybe Simon got them from some old poem. Fascinating.
