So I understand that he lost a point because off losing his grip at the start of the second half, but is that a rule that still exists and when was it in effect? Was it only in effect if no one scored in the first half?

It was a new rule at the time. I think it's been rescinded since then

Literally had nothing to do with age.

Because Rulon was too fat, Karelin decided to change his grip to get a better one and lost a point according to the rules for that one event only.

No amount of age would have changed how fat Rulon was or how stupid that rule was.

Just being a big fat oaf, and rewarded with a stupid rule change to 'win' on a technicality.

lol is this because of the retards in the Heavies?

People also realize Karelin was “allegedly” not going to go and was pressured to go and was out of shape and clearly not himself.. right? Along with Age.

Rulon also won the world title the next year and a bronze in 04.. he wasn’t quite as bad as some people keep trying to imply.

As far as the “rule” Greco always is changing rules to incentivize a little more scoring. The athletes then adjust and they change it again. It affects matches all the time. Karelin-Gardner was just the high profile example. All this rule changing is horrible for the spectators and reffing. But Greco snobs will push a wannabe tuff guy little man syndrome and say “you just are tuff enough to get it”
