Provincetown is the case study that's part of the reasoning behind the return to masks, they estimated up to 90% of people were vaxed for the July 4 celebrations there (60k people came) yet it still lead to outbreaks. So I can see where the return of the mask mandate is coming from in the absence of more certain information.

'He thought he was immortal': Twin sister's heartbreak as body-building brother, 42, who rejected jab because he 'didn't want vaccine in his body' died four weeks after catching Covid... 'wishing he'd listened' to her
    • John Eyers, 42, of Southport, Merseyside, had been climbing Welsh mountains one month before his death
    • His twin sister Jenny says he was 'fittest, healthiest person I know' and had 'belief in his own immortality'
    • Father-of-one had thought he would only have a 'mild illness' if he got Covid-19 and didn't want a vaccine
    • But he died after suffering from infection and organ failure, telling consultant he regretted not getting jab

unvaxed neice on 6th day...big improvement. still can't taste.
vaxed sister on 3rd day....turned corner today.
unvaxxed broher-in-law - no shot no covid...and surrounded by it....amazing!

I'll be sure to tell my sweating and dehydrated niece how she should stop complaining about it and just thank her lucky stars that she didn't get vaxxed after all she didn't die from covid, just suffered for 6+ days. And long term---who knows but that vax, oh boy, that would have been a lot worse.

    Rah rah fuck the vaccine!!!!

Belgium imposes ventilation rules for businesses to combat new Covid surge
Carbon dioxide monitors must be on public display so customers can see level of fresh air

"Across Belgium public venues from restaurants to swimming pools are being fitted with sensors that display how much air customers are sharing with others in an attempt to combat further surges of Covid-19 into the autumn and winter. The carbon dioxide monitors, which cost about €70, indicate whether windows or doors should be opened to increase the circulation of fresh air and prevent the transmission of coronavirus. “Businesses were happy with this because it meant they could reopen, and it’s a small investment that costs €60 or €80 depending on the type of sensor,”

If the sensors show carbon dioxide levels of 900-1,200 parts per million, venues are required to take action to improve it, and anything above that level is a safety breach. It will be enforced by inspectors who will issue warnings if they find sensors are not displayed, and after a three-month phase-in period will begin issuing fines to businesses that do not comply."

Interesting approach, that is in line with my own feeling on mitigation strategies. However, theres disagreement as to the effectiveness of them, and some research shows masks to be far better and preventing the spread indoors than passive ventilation. Full discussion here:

"Standard ventilation rates are inadequate, says Wang. In another preprint, he and his colleagues estimate that doubling the amount of outdoor air reduces the chance of infection by up to 35% in densely packed venues such as restaurants. But that same change has a much smaller effect — reducing risk by as little as 0.1% — in larger venues with fewer people, such as warehouses. Their analysis also shows that wearing a mask indoors is even more effective than changing the air: masks decrease infection risk by more than 60%, because they cut the virus off at its source

Opening windows is the easiest method that health authorities suggest to improve ventilation. Although it is better than doing nothing, an open window rarely exchanges enough air between the indoor and outdoor environment, especially if there is no cross-breeze, says Kähler. Opening windows for just a few minutes — between classes, say — would leave the majority of virus untouched, according to air-exchange measurements Kähler and his colleagues took in a university lecture room. A better method is to mechanically ventilate a space. This draws in virus-free outdoor air and removes contaminated indoor air, thereby diluting any virus present"

[Why indoor spaces are still prime COVID hotspots]

UK looking hopeful at the moment, might have reached status with the virus, thanks to our world beating levels of vaccination we can continue life pretty much as normal!

    Fingers crossed.

Yeah, Wales are making their announcement tomorrow about whether we're moving to level zero the same as the rest of the UK, we obviously will be or else shit will hit the fan - our figures are better than England and Scotland's. We'll have a normal August, like last year....

I still can't shake the idea though that come September, when the schools/colleges/unis return and the weather starts to turn, and flu season comes back.....yeah.

But yeah in general the vibes are good. England dropped all restrictions almost 3 weeks ago and cases have continued to go down since then, deaths rising slightly but that's the obvious fallout / knock-on of those high case rates a few weeks previous to that. Euro 2020 didn't seem to cause a spike, nightclubs are now open, don't seem to be causing a problem. Fingers crossed indeed.

I'm busting to go to a nightclub this month. I want to crack open a bag and hit the dancefloor!

Yeah when flu comes along and students are back it's likely to happen again, but less than previous spikes.

Apparently people are not socialising at pre pandemic levels. Previous was 10 close contacts a day, now it's 4. This is probably a large reason for the current low numbers combined with the vaccination.

Kids are in soft play centres every other day, I'm playing sports, enjoying it while it's here.

Chief pathologist at the University of Heidelberg urges more autopsies of vaccinated people
More than 40 people have already been autopsied who died within two weeks of being vaccinated. Schirmacher assumes that 30 to 40 percent of them died from the vaccination. In his opinion, the frequency of fatal consequences of vaccinations is underestimated

Aye, he's pro vaccine and wants to examine rare complications of vaccination. It's not really much of a story unless you're interested in pathology. I guess if you think there's a grand conspiracy you might leap to conclusions, the pathologist in question however does not and has not.

It's the question of greater analysis asked for in a public space Vs a program of information combatting conspiracy theorists and where we stand.

    Education Vs ignorance.

I'm impressed you're reading German man, didn't know you had it in you!

That's a pretty questionable safety profile, somewhere around 50-100 times worse than the other vaccines we're regularly jabbed with.

Damn. I know we have folks completely dismissing this data, and there ARE limitations, but these are striking numbers and seem to be picking up on MAJOR safety signals (exactly what this system was made for). These numbers seem too high to ignore... the fallout is going to be crazy!

So on here I'm considered a vaccine shill and a covid scardy pants by some (@Nimrod ;) and I'm faced with being too cavalier with regards to my American football team.

A team we were playing the coming Sunday has pulled out because they had one player test positive for covid.

Everyone else is clapping them on the back whereas I'm here thinking next man up. They had a guy test positive on Tuesday, so if they all do lateral flow tests Sunday and test negative I don't see the problem in playing.

They. Pulled. Out. For. One. Player.

I guess they all need to self isolate for 10 days being as they were in close contact. I'm just annoyed and venting, really wanted to play them.

It amazes me how people are using illogical rules/regulations (cancel game for one positive test) in order to support more dramatic and illogical actions (get every single person vaccinated with a brand new vaccine).

It's like the more the authorities screw up, the more power/control people want to give them...
