Social Elon Musk slams unregulated Texas power grid operator after moving to Texas to avoid regulation

Elon was just on Rogans podcast talking about how regulation is good and necessary in some instances, and how it’s overbearing and too restrictive in other cases.

a nuanced approach.

Translation from Elon: Regulation is bad when my company is affected but good when others are.

Austin is a shitshow in real estate pricing and the 35 going through the city is a nightmare. Traffic has always been bad. It's actually frustrating because it's worse than places that have 4 times as many people.
Austin has the traffic of Los Angeles with a population of 500,000.

Rush hour on the 10 going out of Houston to Katy is better than traffic through Austin on the 35. The 10 in Houston is 6-7 lanes on either side.
Sounds like they have a shitty infrastructure that was never designed to support anything more than a rural population

Small city, since it's the capital. The city management is horrific.

It's been interesting to see how Joe Rogan a few other celebrities have helped to shape this narrative regarding California and Texas. Joe Rogan lived in California for decades, plenty long enough to develop grievances. He's barely even familiar with Texas, at this point.

For example, the talk about transplants from California turning Texas Blue, which is based in inaccuracies, has become a major talking point in the last year or two (probably longer, but it's really picked up some steam).

The reality is that transplants in Texas lean more Republican, while native Texans are actually more likely to be liberal than the transplants. If anything, transplants may end up keeping Texas Red.
The poll found that compared to native Texans, people who moved to Texas were more likely to have voted for President Trump, with voters born in Texas favoring Trump over Clinton by 7 percent compared to transplants favoring Trump by 12 percent. Remember, Trump won Texas by 9 percent in 2016.

This result is similar to the findings of a CNN exit poll in the 2018 Senate race between Cruz and O’Rourke showing that native Texans favored O’Rourke by 3 percent compared to people who moved to Texas supporting Cruz by 15 percent. And an earlier poll by the Texas Tribune and UT Austin found that 57 percent of Californians who moved to Texas were self-described conservatives compared to 27 percent liberals.

70% Homeless in SF and 90% Homeless Berkeley?

Lol! Your wife should divorce you taking her to Skid Row for your honeymoon
Wasn't that the guy who shits on poor people in the other thread? no wonder our country's in deep shit; poor people calling other poor people <Lmaoo>, and who the fuck went for a honeymoon in Napa? dude sounds poor.

It was designed to support the population that Austin had in the 60s and 70s.

At present, the metro area has more than a million people.

They had decades to handle this after the first wave of migration into the city started but did nothing.

but the state government is a dysfunctional clownshow which is severely hampered by the post-reconstruction constitution, which was explicitly designed to limit government efficacy because they were afraid of Northern carpetbaggers coming back.

Your making it sound way worse than it is. I've lived in several different states. Texas is fine and a great place to live. Every state has it's issues no place is perfect.

This is very slanted and dishonest explanation for the PG&E brush fire situation.

Yeah, it's true that Brown vetoed a bill that would've increased funding for brush clearing.

However, it was the state that mandated brush clearing in the first place. PG&E didn't want to clear the brush at all and was stonewalling the update of fire maps that indicated problem areas susceptible to fires for more than a decade. If the power company had its way, the situation would've been even worse.

Hard to believe PG&E would refuse, since surely that expense would be recovered in their rate case. The PUC denying relief sounds more believable.

As somebody who grew up in Austin and saw the horrible traffic situation evolve due to the states' idiotic decision not to bypass I-35 around the city, I've been laughing my ass of at all of the pro-Texas propaganda that people have been spouting for the past few years.

Yeah, real estate is cheaper (for now), but the state government is a dysfunctional clownshow which is severely hampered by the post-reconstruction constitution, which was explicitly designed to limit government efficacy because they were afraid of Northern carpetbaggers coming back.

When was the last time that Texas had widespread rolling blackouts that resulted in the power being so unreliable it caused the people to rise up and recall the governor, then elect a new one from the opposite party that has fewer than 4 out of state residents registered to that party?

Because that happened in my lifetime in California. Oh, also, our power companies have lost billions in lawsuits because their equipment has been found to be the cause the wildfires which are ravaging our state every summer.

the #1 thing our country should be doing is INFRASTRUCTURE
china is killing us on building up their country and making is "great"
we need to be laser focused on making our grid safe and strong and our country's roads and highways safer and in a better state of repair ... if we took half the money we waste in other areas we could boost the economy etc

but thats socialist thinking lol

Our original plan was to go to Greece and Paris, but obviously that fell through. Napa was a decent back up plan. Actually turned out pretty nice as nobody was there, so it was a great honeymoon experience. We will be going to greece and paris this september.

Yes, we should be building infrastructure. However, that isn't "socialist" thinking. Socialists are the one who prevent sensible projects like that because they exhaust funds and taxpayer goodwill with their bleeding hearts promising the world to every stupid idea drawn from the misconception that there is a magic money tree being hoarded away from everyone by some nefarious cabal of villains like you'd see caricatured in Spy Kids, or some other children's movie.

exactly. They think, oh government money it better be given to x and x and y and z.

it was more of a joke the socialist thing.. but we really need to get our heads out of our collective asses and work on actually making America great instead of some nonsense tagline to win votes

Probably because they've seen how retarded California has become.

Texas lost power during a 100 year weather storm. California loses power on mild summer days.

Imagine being such a smooth brain you think the entire US code of federal regulations is an all or nothing deal. You can't comprehend that someone may dislike some regulations and like others?

We went to Napa for our makeshift honeymoon in September. Rented a car at the San Fran airport and drove out to Napa. SF was about 70% homeless people walking around. On the way home I actually stopped in Berkley, CA for gas because I thought it would be a "nicer" area due to the reputation of the college. It was like 90% homeless people. It was once of the worst places I've ever been.
If you drove to NAPA from SFO you drove adjacent to SF on a fucking highway and assessed how nice it was near some overpasses. What a shocker you'd see some homeless people there in the most temperate place in America. Feel free to share all the stories of SF having blizzards or hurricanes like TX lol.

Weird that sounds way too much like what happened to San Francisco during a sudden tech-rush 20 years ago...
