I haven't read anything on it yet, but we handle a lot of business buyouts here at work and a lot of key personnel is kept in place. The stipulations of the buyout often has long term employment contracts and could keep someone like Dana in play. I've seen several businesses purchased by another outfit and there are very little changes that the average person would notice. I can't imagine something as big as the UFC selling to an investor without certain stipulations to protect the brand and key members.

Don't underestimate the colossal disaster that can happen should the UFC get sold. Business history is littered with stories of great brands that sank into the ash heap of history despite the best of intentions. Yes, the Fertittas and Dana are shrewd business people, but being big fight fans informed a lot of their decisions, especially early on and through the Golden Era. If Dana lost the passion and wants to spend time with his kids or the Fertitta brothers decide the aggravation isn't worth it anymore, it's a total wild card what can happen with new ownership and none of it probably positive.

anyone who would spend the $ to buy the ufc would want to keep running it, no?

Yeah this is more what I am thinking. However, Jim also has a good point that sometimes change in ownership has historically been a trainwreck even with the best intentions.

It is a bit of a wildcard how key people in the UFC react to getting paid huge money. For example, if the Fertitas and Dana walk in to 500m each they may not really care anymore.

I might be in the minority here but I wouldn't mind seeing the whole MMA world get a bit of a shakeup. Nothing lasts forever and if the UFC kind of falters and it opens the door for Bellator and other orgs to be competitive I think that would be good for MMA long term.

Honestly, the UFC has become a bit too corporate and stale for my liking. I was watching UFC 2 ~ "No Way Out" (1994) last night and man that shit was sweet.

I honestly can't see Dana walking away at this point. He's way too invested. Say what you want about him, but the UFC is his life and I'm sure he looks at it as his legacy.

@EzFlyer

Bellator thread or we gonna keep discussions for this card no one will watch in here?

Think odds might be out later today. I have a VERY strong lean, but not sure i'll get a good price. Also two other spots I wanna play depending on price.

I was waiting for you to make that 198 thread for weeks lol (Didn't even notice I got my black belt 8 posts ago)

They might start that way, but weird things sometimes happen. What if the company that purchases the UFC itself gets purchased by another conglomerate down the road? What if the head honcho of whatever investment portfolio that acquires the UFC dies suddenly? What if the economy tanks? There could be lot of unintended consequences at play with a change in ownership.

And to address what Lemonzest said about the UFC being too corporate and looking forward to a shakeup: We as bettors are in the enviable position of having a dominant pro league in the UFC that is deemed important enough that we see 20+ prop bets available even for early prelim fights. It's the superior position that the UFC enjoys as the top professional promotion in the world and the huge fan base it has that gives oddsmakers and sportsbooks impetus to create dozens of lines on all thirteen fights pr card which is to our advantage. If the situation changes and the UFC falters and we have instead a few or several medium sized promotions as the main players in the market, then you can maybe look forward to getting a few straight MLs and maybe over/unders or a few basic ITD or DEC props like you do for Bellator now if we're lucky. Trust me as bettors we don't want a damn thing changing.

RE the UFC being sold:

I think both Jim and O have good points. Dana isn't going anywhere. He loves it too much, and as a minority owner along with being the President of the company it's almost guaranteed there will be a stip that he keeps his position. Probably multiple key players as well. There is unlikely to be any immediate noticeable changes in the day to day operations of the company.

But Jim is right in that new ownership can mean a lot of different things long term. When the TV contracts are up for negotiation will the new ownership approach the negotiations in a similar manner? Do they believe the # of events, fighters on the roster, etc. etc. is optimal for having the business be the most profitable. At this point it's become fairly obvious what the Zuffa strategy was to grow the brand and make it more mainstream. Will the new ownership group share a similar vision? Who knows?

Just announced on UFC Tonight: TUF 24 debuts August 21st, 2016, with Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo coaching a team of flyweight competitors, all of whom will be champions from other promotions. The winner of the tournament will get a title shot against Demetrious Johnson in their first fight in the UFC. The coaches willl also fight each other on the finale in the co-main event. I'm imagining that the UFC had to drop their strict requirement that all TUF competitors speak English as I'm guessing that several of the flyweights are going to be Brazilian or Japanese who speak little or no English. After all, it won't be easy to find flyweight champions from around the world without going to Jungle Fight, Shooto Brasil, Shooto Japan, Pancrase and a bunch of others and taking their champions whether they are fluent or not.

Always a level of fear for me when there is a major change to something that seems to working fine.

I still think the UFC will be around, the only thing that scares me is the potential now for fixed fights.

Now you know why I was against guys like piglord who want to make this betting thing a career.

If memory serves.. Bj was coach on cole's season of tuf... One of the best Tuf seasons

Lol what a joke. You know the division is officially fucked when a TUF winner gets a title shot.
