He never evolved from being just an wrestler to an elite all-around fighter. In the early days of MMA, fighters didnt train effectively as today. Kevin Randleman was part of Mark Coleman's gym, Hammer House. And that gym was full of wrestlers. Imagine if he joined a gym like AKA and got sufficient, more honed MMA training by today's standards. He would have been a killer. A lot of things could have improved including his defense, which was costing him his fights. Kevin was always getting caught by a submission when he was scored a TD and controlling the fight. Like how Fedor and Sakuraba beat him. Even Rampage knocked him out in the plum clinch.
No submission defense, bad striking technique, zero jiu-jitsu. Just peaked in the wrong mma era, in the early days of the sport.
