He never evolved from being just an wrestler to an elite all-around fighter. In the early days of MMA, fighters didnt train effectively as today. Kevin Randleman was part of Mark Coleman's gym, Hammer House. And that gym was full of wrestlers. Imagine if he joined a gym like AKA and got sufficient, more honed MMA training by today's standards. He would have been a killer. A lot of things could have improved including his defense, which was costing him his fights. Kevin was always getting caught by a submission when he was scored a TD and controlling the fight. Like how Fedor and Sakuraba beat him. Even Rampage knocked him out in the plum clinch.

No submission defense, bad striking technique, zero jiu-jitsu. Just peaked in the wrong mma era, in the early days of the sport.

Randleman would pop six months out.

Loved the enthusiasm though.

Modern Fedor would probably train with Khabib.

Which turns this entire discussion ... on it's head

I don't know how far off Randleman was from his potential.

For what it's worth he was still "UFC Champ" and did pretty clearly beat Bas in a decision that went against him.

He knocked Prime Crocop stiff.

He was inconsistent but had a decent run. It feels like he should have been better but his actual book of work is IMO kind of underrated.

Yup, Randleman and Coleman both ragdolled Fedor until they needed just an ounce of sub defense.

DC and Cain maul Fedor worse than Bigfoot did.

In this fantasy match up, can Fedor have modern mma training too? Weird thread.

Where does that idea come from? What gives you the courage to post it and think it's good idea? Can I have some of that drug?

Kevin "The Monster" Randleman. He was a beast!

My favorite moment is when he scared the bejesus out of Chuck Liddell after one of his fights. Chuck literally almost jumped out of Randleman's way.

BUT........
He wouldn't beat Fedor now, because without all that Hammer House roiding, he would be a welterweight or middleweight. He used to wrestle at 177 pounds too.

Well, he actually did evolve, if you really followed his career...

By the time he joined Pride, he was already workin´on his boxin´ with Emanuel Steward, & you could definitely see his improvements, in the Ninja fight for instance...
