Golovkin would've had an even better career at 154

It's been known for a while that GGG doesn't cut much weight in comparison to his opponents at 160; he usually comes in under 170 on fight night.

Why hasn't he tried 154? Any decent nutritionist could get him to make that weight safely, and he would've murked absolutely everyone there.

I was rewatching Canelo - GGG II and it immediately stood out to me how much bigger Canelo was. He's an inch shorter but carries so much more muscle in his upper body and thighs that GGG was struggling badly with his physicality and being forced to fight on the back foot for the first time.

154 should've been his home, with occasional trips up to 160 for big fights; would've extended his physical prime too.

He's not that special anyway, everyone has already forgotten him, that fast, his legacy wasn't going to last in everyone's minds, but the all time greats are never forgotten, they are always mentioned & compared to others upcoming talent and threads are always going on about the greats.

Rematch should’ve been a draw. First match was GGG
lmfaoooo hopefully this nonsense dies down within the decade

golovkin may have performed better at 154 but the biggest argument against him is his resumé. 154 was pretty awful when golovkin was in his prime. 160 was the better choice.

maybe I'm wrong, but

It seems like he was always in shape and didn't feel the need to gain over 10 pounds in the 30 hour post weigh in window. He didn't cut a ton of but he always looked not great at weigh ins. He's big as some ufc 170 lbs.er's

With a proper nutrition and methods i guess could've made 54, but that is still playing with fire especially since he boxed 160 in the 2004 Olympics FFS.

Also I thought he won the 2nd fight vs Canelo but I'm tired of arguing. Dead horse.

He was low 170s most of his career in the ring (173 against Rubio, 174 against Vanes, 170 against Macklin). You could say that was fairly similar to a guy like Hopkins in that he stayed in shape year round and didn't carry any non-essential weight at 160. He probably could've made the weight, but it would have been a decent cut (almost 20 pounds) and probably wouldn't have helped his longevity at all (or necessarily complimented his style which relied on outstanding stamina and durability). Throughout his MW career he was never really outsized, except against a huge MW in Jacobs (and it was more Jacobs' legs and boxing ability that gave him issues as opposed to pure size).

Basically, he wasn't ever really a small MW and amassed a HoF career there, so I don't see the point of him draining a ton of weight to fight in a less prestigious division.

Lmao no

Canelo won the rematch clearer than GGG won the first

All that talk of Canelo "running" and it was GGG who was on the run like a little bitch<Lmaoo>

GGG back never touched the ropes once in the rematch. Canelo head was getting popped by the jab all night and he got hurt bad in the 10th

Funny listening to Reynoso pleading with Canelo not to exchange with GGG “you can’t knock him out. He’s too strong carbon!”

Canelo fanbase in forums usually are guys like you: rude, boxer's fans as a Brand fans not boxing fans.

It is waste of time to discuss with guys like you Canelo fights score cards.

No one who values his time will discuss with posters like you Canelo scorecards in his fights.

In forums usually are posting people like you.
While term " Canelo scorecards " had been well known in U.S long before Canelo fights vs GGG.

No one who really is hardcore boxing follower does have any question about meaning " Canelo scorecards ".
Interestingly that boxing specialists, pundits and ex pro boxers, boxing journalists etc alike ppl usually had scored these GGG fights vs Canelo not like you imagine they should had been scored. Yeah, also a lot in US based media, yeah, by ppl from US.

This is not only about Canelo fights vs GGG.

I agree, he's totally irrelevant.. I can't imagine people opening threads about him in 2021 and discussing his legacy.

Like Canelo is absolutely irrelevant for me.
For sure Canelo fans are very specific people and were very specific ppl long before his fights vs GGG.
Nothing wrong, if they continue to buy tickets and ppvs nothing wrong with this.
They sometimes insist that Canelo had won vs Floyd Jr.
Less hardcore Canelo fans are defending a draw scorecard for their idol Brand in fight vs Floyd Jr.
With cherry pick fights are happy almost all Canelo fans.
Especially with fights vs old Mosley ( 38) version, vs Khan and vs 36.y.o Floyd Jr.
Jumping up/ down in weight classes, catchweights and clauses : all is cool for Canelo fans.
They are thinking that he is some kind of Ali from 60 ies in this era.

The only one who got rocked in either fight was Golovkin lmao

Abel was pleading with him to stand his ground and KO Canelo (because he knew his pupil was losing bad) yet GGG continued to run away like the coward he is and will always be 0-1-1 against Canelo hahahaha (soon to be 0-2-1 :D)

So a 37 year old fighting the best pvp fighter of the world in his prime and having a very close fight with him. After getting a draw that many consider to be a win for him.

And now hes a can and a coward and has always been.

how stupid.

Adalaide Bird is the worst thing to ever happen to GGG's career.

This is what happens when the heavies spill into the boxing forum.

118-110....you sound like a front runner fan. I hope Canelo loses soon so we can see how loyal you are. Bet you were wearing Money Team tee's back in 2013.

Actually, in the course of the 24 rounds, there was only a very brief moment where one fighter was "hurt", and it was Canelo in the 10th round of the second fight.
He recovered almost instantaneously, and his skills allowed him to avoid being hit while he recovered, but that was the only time that one of the fighters was impacted in both fights.

I was one who thought he would get exposed eventually. But now that I've seen him beaten, and seen where Canelo has gone since, I think GGG was someone who was better than I thought, no one else has given Canelo the same fight, but I dont think 154 is a money division like 160 is.
