There are some good games on there, but that's a pretty weak list. Of the games I recognize, they're all old and will likely be playable at better frame rates on the new consoles (relative to before I mean, not necessarily vs. Luna). I wasn't even aware this was launching now.

Google Stadia Family Sharing is officially rolling out, Pro titles supported
9to5 Google said:
With Stadia Family Sharing, account holders can share any game in their library with up to six people. This includes not only games that were directly purchased, but also games that have been redeemed with a Pro subscription, as we previously discovered. That means one person with Stadia Pro can share games they’ve redeemed with other users who lack that subscription, all for one monthly fee.

You don’t need to be an active Stadia Pro subscriber to share games or play shared games. However, if you share a game that you claimed with your Pro subscription and your subscription ends, the game will stop being shared with your family group.

When trying to access a game in Stadia Family Sharing, Google notes that only one person can be playing a specific title at any given time. If someone in your family is playing Orcs Must Die 3, for example, the title will be blocked for everyone else, but other titles will still be available to play. However, if two family members are sharing the same game in the same group, two people can still play at once.

If all shared copies of a game are being played by members of your family group, the family sharing icon will appear instead of Play when you try to launch it. Select the icon for more information.

Notably, Google also allows users to share their entire library or only specific titles. One setting will automatically share all games in a library, but another will require the user to specifically enabling sharing on individual titles. Game add-ons can also be shared, but only in the form of expansions. In-game currency cannot be shared.
Pretty straightforward. You can share your library (and vice versa) with up to six friends at a time, but only one of you can play a specific game at a time per each person in the group that owns that game. So if one person in a 7-person group owns Cyberpunk 2077, any one of the other six can play it, but only that person, and not the owner; if two own it, any two can play it simultaneously; if three own it, any three can play simultaneously, and so on.

Thus, in theory, if you can find six other Stadia subscribers to be in a single "family", then each of you may agree to buy a different game. The group now owns 7 games, not just one, but you must take turns playing them. In reality, people's groups probably won't all be the same six friends, so it gets a lot messier, but it's still a very cool feature.

This feature would be absolutely broken on networks with as many users as the PSN, Xbox Live, or Steam. It certainly addresses the broad complaint from users about the high cost of using the service (since it requires a strong internet connection, a subscription, and purchase of the games themselves). However, without the inertia of more subscribers, I'm not sure how practically useful it will prove. Still, it's a big plus to a struggling service.

Where on earth is anyone going to find six other Stadia subscribers?

I got into the Beta and it's a jittery mess.

Received a Stadia for free since I share a Youtube Premium account with my buddy. It isn't bad, but my connection was a bit meh when trying it out so it froze Destiny 2 in some spots. I wouldn't sink any money in it, but it's not a shit as I thought it would be.

Google closes Stadia’s Cyberpunk 2077 hardware giveaway early due to ‘overwhelming’ demand
Stadia is one of the best places to play the massive new game Cyberpunk 2077 thanks to performance, but also because you can essentially get a free console with the game thanks to a free Premiere Edition bundle. Unfortunately, though, that promotion is ending a few days early.

Confirmed on the Stadia subreddit tonight, Google has stopped this promotion as of December 13th in all regions. The Cyberpunk promotion ended for Stadia users in Canada on December 10th.

Originally scheduled to end on December 17th, Google was offering a free Premiere Edition bundle with Stadia pre-orders and early orders of Cyberpunk 2077. The codes, which started rolling out last week, gave players a free Chromecast and Stadia Controller to play the game on their TV. That bundle usually carries a price tag of $99, but carried no extra charge when buying the game at its retail price of $59...

The early end of this promotion isn’t entirely unexpected, though, as Google always noted that it was only while supplies last:

Hey everyone, due to the overwhelmingly positive reception, we’ve now closed the Cyberpunk 2077 promotion in all countries. If you placed an order before 4 PM PT on December 13, you are eligible for the promotion and will receive a code within 7 days to redeem your Premiere Edition. Thank you all for the support and hope you all are enjoying Night City!

Note: For players located in Canada, please note that the promotion ended on December 10. For more information, take a look at this post.

Our seemlingly dead on arrival streaming service is finally getting attention, quick end the promotion so we don't give away another 0.00000000000001% of our money.

<Huh2>

isn't this like... COMPLETELY backwards? the promotion's actually working! quick, kill it! what?
Because it's one of those promotions where it's "while supplies last" so if it's overwhelmingly positive that means it's going to exhaust supplies quicker than if it wasn't.

So are these pricks going to reward the loyal customers who have paid full price for years? And who have to pay £11.99 a month when new subscribers are getting great deals?

This is true, and it's not clear which supplies we're talking about, here.

I have a suspicion Google didn't anticipate how popular this would be, and they just exhausted their entire on-hand inventory of Stadia controllers (because I strongly doubt they ran out of Chromecast Ultras). Otherwise, the "inventory" is only digital keycodes to the game from Cyberpunk, and I'm sure Google would have been more than happy to buy thousands more of those if it meant moving more Stadia systems into user hands.

So, in effect, Stadia Pro units just sold out. Not bad for a supposedly DOA gaming system.

My thoughts too, plus this tells Google they can repeat this process the next time an anticipated title launches.... Although it might not be during Christmas time like this was.

It further narrows their customer base. Units can only be pushed when given away for free during a recession off a new title release. Where the newest consoles are in short supply and the previous consoles run this new game title poorly.

Using a Gamestop strategy isnt good.

It further narrows their customer base.
LOL, what a profoundly ignorant and illogical statement. They have expanded their customer base. Undeniably.

What you're trying to articulate is that this strategy, if depended on long-term, limits their potential market. Sure. The part about Gamestop is dumb. Gamestop died because it specializes in selling a virtual product in a brick and mortar store at a ridiculous premium. Nothing-- no strategy any kid in a suit could cook up-- is saving that model.

ironically, they're in the middle of a resurgence (attempt) and power struggle. but it looks like the board won, with the recent (~3 days ago?) poison pill development. so it's probably all over now.

if they pull off a coup and replace the management, they have a chance at turning around - albeit via a totally different model. (pushing to make it 'the amazon of gaming')

also, i just looked up chromecasts and saw they're actually sold out on amazon and etc, so it might have been chromecasts and not the controllers. *shrugs* but given the biz model of stadia, i figured they'd be happy just to pick up subscribers, regardless.

Google Stadia just hit the iPhone — now you can play Cyberpunk 2077 bug-free
With the release on iOS, Stadia is now available to an additional 1.5 billion devices
Stadia, Google's cloud gaming service, has made its way to iOS a little more than a year after its initial launch. That means anyone with an iPhone or iPad can now subscriber to Stadia for access to AAA gaming.

Because of rules Apple has in place for cloud gaming services, Google has followed the lead of Nvidia and its GeForce Now service by allowing users to access its streaming library through mobile Safari. Microsoft's xCloud will launch in a similar fashion next year.

When going to Stadia's website, iPhone and iPad users must click on the share icon and tap the "add to home screen" button. This will create a container on a user's homepage that will immediately direct them to Stadia's website via Safari.

At the moment, Stadia has two free games available for users, Destiny 2 and Bomberman R. That means that users can jump in on some gameplay without having to pay for a Stadia subscription, which costs $9.99 a month. But really, most users jumping into Stadia will likely be doing so to get in on newer AAA titles without having to spend money on a beefy gaming PC.

At the moment, Cyberpunk 2077 is the game that's bringing both consoles and PCs to its knees. Unless running on the most high-end hardware, Cyberpunk 2077 struggles to perform.

But Stadia, with its powerful servers, is able to stream Cyberpunk 2077 to users at excellent framerates. Dominic L of The Sixth Axis wrote in an article that he believes graphically taxing games like Cyberpunk 2077 make the best case for a Stadia membership.

There will be some odd quirks when using Stadia on iOS devices — mainly that screens will become cluttered with app icons for individual games. While Apple allows users to open Netflix and browse its catalogue siloed from the rest of iOS, Apple feels that each game title needs its own app, at least for games that aren't part of Apple Arcade. If you want to play both Destiny 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 on your iPhone, Stadia will have to create an individual icon for each.

Demand to play Cyberpunk 2077 was so high that Google had to shut down a promotion that offered a free Stadia controller and Chromcast Ultra to anyone who pre-ordered the game.
