Half Life: Alyx (critically acclaimed across the board)

I pulled this because right now this is the top post all-time on the Half-Life Alyx subreddit. So it appears we have to polish off the ulcerous canker of feminazis encroaching on our industry of hardcore gaming.

I fully support neg-bombing the shit out of any article this woman prints. Frankly, there's a war, here, and it isn't one of half-measures of diplomatic fence-sitting. People like her need to go find a job in another industry. As far as I'm concerned, she's not welcome. Makes me want to boycott Engadget.

I laughed when she said TF2 could have been a esport like Fortnite. She was clearly not around after TF2 was released and when Twitch started getting popular in 2013. TF2 esports never attracted viewers.

Maybe if it didn’t take like two decades to get back to the story. Young, single, no kids/wife BP would’ve been all over this. Now married with kids BP ain’t got no time for VR sets and all that noise.

So...about that ending...

nah its made for vr, it loses its charm with non vr
Only if you're poor.

The important thing to note is that this is not a game review, it's a critique of Valve. If she had made this a year ago I don't think there would be such backlash. She does make some valid points.

Also she doesn't seem like a feminazi at all. She knows too much about games for starters. More like a former Valve fan who is pissed off at the direction they've taken since Steam.

Just finished playing it on my HTC Vive.

Managed to avoid spoilers, thank God.

The game is fantastic! VR is definitely not what I was looking forward to in the Half-Life franchise, but man, this is something else.

Just read through the plot on wikipedia.

I fucking KNEW they couldn't keep going without retconning that shit in episode 2. I knew it so fucking hard. For ten years I was like "They're either gonna reboot or retcon cause no way in hell can they write themselves past this."

i'm strongly considering wasting a bunch of money on a VR headset (thinking oculus quest with the link cable). All this COVID-19 lockdown shit, not like i have a lot of other cool shit going on in my life at the moment.

is it worth it? Alyx looks amazing, reviews look awesome, but throwing away nearly a grand for 1 game is stupid even by my standards. Is there any other worthy VR games out there?

I've been thinking the same thing.

I was an early adopter of VR, I got the Oculus DK2 in either 2014 or early 2015, the only game worth playing back then I found was Minecraft VR, sold it not long after.

Been waiting for enough good VR games to come out to get back into it because the technology is really cool.

There are lots of great games with many more in development.

And if you hate them all there is still VR porn

I ended up doing it and getting the quest and a USB-C cable for oculus link. no regrets. The quest is awesome untethered. The cable is a huge limitation, untethered I can use my whole lounge room. With the cable hooked up i'm limited to a couple meters next to my PC.

that being said, Alyx is awesome.
VR Porn is also mind blowing haha.
