I’ve experienced those road blocks in hospitals as well. Dragged through many hoops over many weeks only to be given drugs at the end of the road. Really hope we can build a more efficient system. Doesn’t always fail, just does too often.

I still don't see your problem. The thread states that half of the hospitalized are jn the younger age bracket and I'm wondering if these younger people have health issues rather would explain this. Stop trying to be offended

I will say it's absolutely wild how the government hasnt gone full blast in connecting obesity with covid impact. For all the public outreach, them being cowards towards fearing the fatties is really odd. They need to really go hard in getting the message across that it's not ok to be fat

Telling people to stop being fat is not going to solve the problem.

Getting people vaccinated is going to solve the problem.

Telling people not to be fat is going to help allievate future pandemic issues, aid in current as covid issues as its something that we are going to have to deal with for a while in various forms and severity and aid in health burdens beyond covid.

I agree that vaccinations are primary concerns but it's not a zero sum game where you can't also promote healthy lifestyles in correlation with vaccinations

Buddy, the government can't force people to take a vaccine, and now you want to tell them they can't consume X amount of calories above their daily maintenance rate? Does the government take away donut shops and video games? Does it forcefeed salads to people? Being fat is as American as apple pie.

You can still promote harder. Like they are with the vaccine. I clearly stated public outreach.

Considering that 85% of covid ICU patients are overweight to obese and that the vaccine may be less effective in fatties https://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/516524

Its odd that they are not including that in the PSA outreach

My mother has been very ill since before the pandemic. In the before times, she was rushed to emergency a half dozen times, and every time felt like it was going to be the last.

During the pandemic it happened a few times, but the difference was I wasn't allowed to be there.

The fact that there has been almost zero mention of very basic healthy practices (vit d, c, zinc, exercise, sleep, diet) is VERY damning in my opinion, and further compounded by vaccinating COVID survivors, and by health authorities basically forbidding use of off label treatments which have also shown promise.

It’s like they took steps to make things worse (in the US, at least) and make no clinical or logical sense. Somehow, each utterly stupid decision went in one direction benefitting one industry, coincidence, I guess!

I didn't see any new facilities built in California. Guess the virus is only a problem for the unmasked, unvaccinated, freedom loving Republicans. If you live in a Democratic propaganda state where you stay locked up forever, wear your mask, distance, and get your poison then you're fine.

California Coronavirus Update: Governor Gavin Newsom Unveils State’s New $120M COVID-19 Testing Facility With Winter, Second Wave Of Pandemic Set To Hit

Not sure if they expanded ICU capacity, but sure, maybe putting more work into prevention meant they weren't past capacity.

Just to be clear, I'm completely pro vax and its shoukd be promoted. But considering the numbers of 85% of fatties being the icu covid cases on top of the studies suggesting that obesity offsets the effectiveness of the vaccine, the government lack of message directed towards healthy diets and exercise was really odd. I mean we are 17months into this thing, plenty of time for them to amp up the public outreach and also was plenty of time for people who would be swayed to change their habits

I mean fast food and doughnuts in exchange for vaccines got more coverage... Just wild

I’m not a particular fan of the vaccines but can see a rationale in support of vaccination. What I can’t understand, is how piss-poor the rollout has been, primarily due to prolonging the pandemic by wasting time vaccination COVID survivors.

The “vaccinate em all and sort it out later” folks are irresponsible and dangerous, in my opinion.

We aren’t even in lockdown..we don’t have to wear a mask ,schools open..not sure where you are getting you news..
The one county that looks like it will be back on lockdown is Orange County…a super Republican anti mask county.
We will be partying while those asshats will be crying some more about a paper mask.

If Trump thought it made sense to get the vaccine last year and politicians on the other side of the aisle were openly willing to go against him basically out of spite, then why tf are you asking me if I think it makes sense to get a vaccine? Your question is best suited for the politicians that politicized their responses to the vaccine questions last year and then completely switched gears when they found out the results of the election.

These same politicians who were openly spreading misinformation and championed anti-vax stances last year are now the ones who are championing draconian mandates towards American citizens while simultaneously exhibiting tyrannical behavior against those who have not taken the vaccine.

I think the disconnect in our conversation stems from you being more worried about a man instead of a global pandemic caused by a highly contagious virus

Hospitals are at full capacity where I’m at. I hope you don’t have a heart attack or anything like that because you’re shit out of luck right now.
