Although, there are treatment programs that help these folks (addicted, mentally ill, etc) and there IS potential to help a significant portion move from homeless to sustainably housed. Investment in these areas is worthwhile, if you ask me.

If the individual had self respect and showed their appreciate by taking care of their gifted housing and attempted to better themselves and their community by working and supporting themselves and their surrounding then I'm sure many would be willing to help fund that...

Unfortunately most people just want to take...

I think a functional country should have a box for criminals, a box for crazies, a box for druggies, a box for homeless

Each box should work to successfully reintegrate them into society, and till that day they stay in the box

So yes, in some way i believe in housing

    Shelter is a human right.

Living under a roof with amenities in a nice home, such as heat, electricity, wifi etc is a privilege.

Yes it should be. The government should provide the bare minimum and it wouldn't be ideal but young people could save up money and buy a better place. I'm not talking about private property here but maybe a massive government effort to build temporary living spaces for people near their work.

Renting is pissing away your money. You pay average 18,000 to 20,000 a month to basically piss it away, nothing is yours.

I'm finally in the process of buying my own property but man it has been a pain in the ass dealing with people smoking cigs and weed constantly and having it come into my window.

All in reading in this thread is people wanting to throw other people's money/property at the problem. As if throwing money at problems automatically means they'll be solved.

If you really feel this way about the homeless, what are you doing as an individual to help this problem?

Are you letting homeless people stay in your home until they can get their own place?

Are you helping them find jobs, or helping them learn how to find jobs/attain skills?

Or are you just fueling their drug habits by giving them money when they approach you with the jingling cup?

Honestly, if you take addicts out of the equation you don't have a whole lot of homeless people left.

Housing is absolutely a human right. Always has been.

But where is this even an issue?

What government is out there preventing people from living in houses?

    I'm confused.

There is no such thing as a “human right.” Rights are derived by society. Simply living does not come with a set of rights.

Foreign buyers should not be able to buy land here at all anyways. Should have to be a citizen to own land. So many of them buy homes just to convert them to slumlord rentals and then sell at a tidy profit a few years later.

But I looks like economic growth and money coming into the country on paper so it keeps happening.

Hedge funds and banks and companies should not be able to buy up property either.

Would be nice to see escalating property taxation per property put into place so every home the rich folks own past the first becomes more of a financial burden and ruins the profit from these slumlords who buy dozens of homes to make rental properties. 5% more for your 2nd property. 10% 3rd, etc. By the time they are paying $500000 a year in property taxes and not seeing profit....

And no putting shit in your wife's name either. Then they would start circumventing the tax by putting properties in their sons and daughters names. But it would leave a visible paper trail forensic accountants could nail them for.

there are plenty of sources of money for things like this that don’t completely rely on government spending. Bezo’s wife would be a source for example, as would other obscenely rich people and companies. We need to do something about the addiction levels, do you agree on that?
