Jason Isbell might be the best song writer of his generation

I'm a huge fan of country, but for some reason I only recently got turned on to Jason Isbell (he did an interview with the Daily Show).

Holy cow is that guy an amazing lyricist - his music may not be for everyone. It's slower paced and very old school country akin to a George Strait. It's rare that a song moves me enough to the point where I get tears in my eyes, but his song Elephant is just brutal, particularly if you have a loved one who has fought cancer.

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend you check out is music. Really unique voice and his songs tell (an often sad) story.

The music isn't necessarily to my taste but I agree that he is a great songwriter. I always liked the work he did when he was a member of the Drive By Truckers. He's always been talented. His wife, Amanda Shires, is a musician as well.
