Joe Bourbon’s Basement Pub – A Sanctuary for All Lifters

I am not a fan of the 12 year old at all, but the 15 year old is great.
I think Glenfiddich 12 is the best whisky to introduce someone into the world of Scotch with. And, that's about it.

The 15 is really good. It's been a long time, but I recall preferring it over the 18.

I just picked up some Redemption rye, Redemption wheated bourbon (both made by MGP), and TX blended whiskey.

I'm not sure I've had any wheated bourbons other than Maker's Mark. My sister really likes Old Elk wheated bourbon, so I thought I'd buy this to compare.

I tried the TX at a wedding on Saturday. It's very one-note, but that note is vanilla ice cream. Certainly not amazing, but it was very enjoyable in its own right. Good enough to buy a bottle of it.

I got violently sick on the 12 year old about 10 years ago at Christmas, which may have something to do with me not being fond of it. I tried revisiting it a little while ago, but it still doesn't do it for me. Yes I also prefer the 15 to the 18 year old - I've only had the 18 in a miniature but remember being more impressed by the 15.

Glenmorangie 10YO is probably my go-to for a first single malt for people who are starting to learn to drink whisky.

All this talk is giving me a hankering to pick up a bottle of something decent soon.

Yes I'd be more inclined to introduce someone to Scotch with the Glenmorangie 10, that's a nice easy going dram, but I'm probably very biased due to my distinct dislike of Glenfiddich 12. Auchentoshan is probably another one I'd go for as an intro.

I've bought both Glenfiddich 12 and Glenmorangie 10 as gifts for my Dad in the past as they were always safe bets (for him). Those and Black Bush (Irish) have always been his go-to's.
I've not bought him a bottle in a while but if I did nowadays I'd likely take a punt on something with a bit more going on.

All this talk has given me a hankering too! I'm a nightmare when I get a bottle I like - a little snifter here and there and it's gone in no time at all, so I'm trying to wait a bit. I have fantasies of a fully stocked cabinet of interesting drams but there's no chance in my house...

I have a bottle of Auchentoshan. definitely something I can enjoy if I run out of Bourbon.

The Glenlivet 15 French Oak is a good one to start with, pretty smooth. Of course, a good Macallan will do too.

I *think* I have a bottle of the Glenlivet 15 waiting for me as a wedding gift from a friend.

Maybe it's me not being used to people anymore, but I feel like everybody at the gym is getting crazier and crazier after things have started opening up again. It's getting real weird.

Peak weird for me today: Dude takes his shirt off while warming up then squats 50kg shirtless while watching himself in the mirror. Not much to look at though. He then decided to get dressed again after me and several other people were obviously weirded out. Rapped and gesticulated wildly in between sets all the time, probably matching the music he was listening to. Then he started doing a pushup-backward roll-forward roll in between sets, and it wasn't pretty either. Not a BJJ-nerd or something like that.
I already know the dude because he's always way overhyped and trying to stare down people in the gym, which I fucking loathe. But today was special.
In the last two weeks I had to tell a guy to stop staring at me from five meters directly in front of me during deadlifts, had a guy randomly sit down on the platform while(!) I was about to start a set of squats and there's a dude around that only does handstands.

LOL.

I guess people got used to being alone and no longer know how to act in public.

The guy mean mugging after squatting 50kg is living rent free in everyone’s heads. Hell, he’s in my head now.

I honestly think this is a real thing. Gonna take some time for people to adjust back to social norms. I remember after first lockdown ended here. Getting to hug another person for the first time in a couple of months was a strange but special feeling.

I went to a party a couple of weeks ago, and there were about 15-20 people there. At first, it was definitely strange being around so many people in a small space. That feeling went away pretty quickly though, and it was just a good time being back to normal for a bit.

My eldest son became very de-socialised (is that a word?) after the first lockdown, to the point he couldn't / wouldn't speak to a shop assistant when wanting to try some new shoes on. It's definitely affected people socially, some more than others
