Media Ken shamrock discusses how he used what he learned from wrestling to negotiate with ufc in the first Tito fight.

C'mon...Ken tried to pull of the Oragami Roll, but Rich countered.

The Oragami roll doesn't work, the Imanari roll does though!

Ken was paid to do the Oragami instead of the Imanari.

It was indeed Erik Paulson. I don't know if his training with Ken was actually best for Ken yet that's all history, now. Ken deserves the title of MMA pioneer and legend though

Paulson is the man, in terms of his skillset and overall martial arts knowledge.Inosanto Paulson.jpgHere he is with his longtime Jeet Kun Do instructor Guro Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee's top student.

His involvement with Ken however was an absolute disaster, theres no other way of putting it.

Kens biggest mistake was leaving the Lions Den, an idea he got from - get this - the real combat clueless Joe Rogan of all people, based on Rogans comments during the first Tito fight that Ken "trains with the Lions Den Guys (smirk), ultimately he controls the pace, he controls what he does and you cant do that, you cant train yourself."

So here we have the MMA team pioneer, the legend taking advice from a wannabe fighter and fear factor host on how to train. The Lions Dens guys were and always had been among the toughest guys in the business bar none.

The second mistake was, instead of bringing Paulson in as a coach to the Lions Den, he went fully under Paulson to his camp who then, instead of trying to build on Kens strengths and his limitations, tried to turn him into 'a modern mixed martial artist'. This meant getting Ken to practice high kicks, which spectacularly backfired against Rich Franklin and the new style just never set with him. He should have been a clinch figher but instead he just became a bad kickboxer with a shot chin.
