I love Mel, I find him similar to the great Gary Cooper. But, I've got to choose Kurt, due to his Elvis, the unforgettable Snake Plissken, and the way he conducted the blood test in The Thing.
Honestly The Road Warrior is the only Mel film I'd consider on the level of Kurt's best work with John Carpenter(Escape From Newyork, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China), Tombstone and Hateful Eight, If you include directing Apocalypto might be on that level I spose.
Was never that crazy about the Lethal Weapon films, fun yes but I wouldnt say they stand out in the genre like say Die Hard.
Kurt's main advantage is that he never really became a box office megastar, meant he spent more of his time doing interesting films rather than bland star vehicles.
The Carpenter films have grown in the public consciousness since their release but at the time none of them received a heroes welcome.
