Opinion Meta: The War Room can't hold a discussion

Following the thread title "Gas the Ozzies" and an increase in the hysterical nature of comments in the War Room I decided to do a search for the word Nazi for posts in the last week. I did so with Godwin's Law in mind, which states:

"as an online discussion grows longer (regardless of topic or scope), the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Adolf Hitler approaches. In less mathematical terms, the longer the discussion, the more likely a Nazi comparison becomes, and with long enough discussions, it is a certainty."

The intended takeaway from this list is to recognise that the War Room is not constructively holding conversations and is at the point of comedic parody. Perhaps the enlightened amongst us will recognise the same hysteria with anti Donald Trump rhetoric.

Here's the results:

Anyway. Stay classy, War Room.

We honestly care for each other and you know that.

Godwin's law isn't a law, it's just a random unsubstianted idea an author made up. You could basically substitute it for anything, for example "The odds of any single word appearing in a conversation becomes greater as the conversation length increases." Yeah duh the number of words increase. People also constantly bring up that law as a way to stifle discussion. The atrocities of the 20th century struck deep in the cultural imagination of Europeans, hence why it's often brought up and used as a comparison tool. But you could easily substitute it for something generic like "authoritarianism." Just because we haven't experienced authoritarianism in a while doesn't mean it isn't real and we shouldn't be on the lookout for it. What was the point of the 20th century happening if we learn nothing from it?

Most people in general cannot hold a discussion. The War Room's history has probably had a greater amount of solid discussions than most places, so it's not just the forum that has this problem.

Generally speaking, most people are too "inhibited" to hold a conversation about anything beyond the weather. We're here to bore the rest of the world with our own delusions and bullshit ideas, and expect somebody to actually listen.

I do notice that the article comments on scientific and brainier sites tend not to devolve into name calling and shooting the messenger type stuff. So it's probably to do with edumucation levels as well.

I don't think the GOP has run on racial division since the early 60s. Victim culture is literally all the left stands for today. I honestly can't think of one leftist policy that isn't about demonizing the majority.

You forgot President Reagan. Remember his fictional black welfare queen? Even Democratic President Clinton catered to the white silent majority base Nixon claimed he championed which was true.

Both sides are doing the same thing. Ridiculous to claim otherwise.

you know there's some empty posters around here whose only activity is to call people nazi, racist, etc.
literally all they post.

Its mainly because the lefts arguments cannot be supported by facts, they run on pure emotion. The only way they can believe their own nonsense is to make monsters of others.
But not you right? <YeahOKJen>

The majority? Do you mean whites?

This is also a political subforum and that's historically one of the most contentious topics along with religion. Good luck in trying to change someone's ideology.

I took Trumps suburban houswives tweets to be blatantly aimed at racial division and that was not long ago at all.

And if you disagree with me you are a literal nazi.

The left cares about the environment, education, wages taxes and equity, Bidens been trying to do infrastructure and just pulled the troops out of Afghanastan. The left is leading the charge in battling covid. None of that nessasarily demonizes anyone . But people get as bored talking about that stuff as watching it on the 6 o'clock news. That's why we get protests about white cops arresting an old black lady and fist fights at pta meetings as news and why we all think the other side is a bunch of extremists.

Stop teaching people about the Nazis and maybe they'll stop talking about 'em.

On second thought, it's probably too late.

When your "group" has no standard to join you wind up with groups like this or street people you see in Oregon

I'm not responding to everyone individually as my answer to you all is the same- Liberals stand for literally nothing that isn't rooted in identity politics. Nothing. I honestly don't get what it even mean to be a democrat today, other than calling everyone nazis, racists or some other form of bigot.

In America the political spectrum is strongly right leaning. While people claim that the democrats are left leaning commies. The truth is they are much more conservative than that, closer to what the world woukd view as center. This is why they are so scared to put any thing that can be viewed as socialists policy in to law.

There are scientific studies that show that the more are word is used, it begans to lose its meaning. There are many nationalist in America, and many people that are closet racist. One way the nationalist right have eroded the meaning of racist and Nazi is by trying to associate the Nazis with socialists. Even though we are all aware that the Nazi party was a hard authoritarian fascist party. They have also gone the route of claiming that the modern democrats are the real racist.

We can look at the outrage from the right about how confederate statues from the Jim Crow era, that were literally put up by racist groups, are now being taken down. They claim that these statues represent histoury and that the left is just trying to delete history. The facts are these statues were put up as insults to glorify a war to keep black slaves. The Daughters of the Confederacy an KKK are responsible for many of these statues, an yet we have people efending them.

It is not really a surprise that many fans of MMA support white Christian nationalist. Their support for things such as religious freedom stop at Christianity. The evangelicals in this country lean hard on wild conspiracy theories about how globalist are trying to replace their religion and white people. We often see how they glorify the pre-civil rights era in America as a better time.

In summary if you support politicians that are white Christian nationalist authoritarians, dont be surprised when you get called a Nazi.

The republican party is the OG when it comes to identity politics.
