Hadn’t seen Nomadland but I’ll probably set aside a night to check it out now. I thought Soul was actually a really great movie so I was excited to see them take hone a couple awards.

Promising young woman was a wild ride beginning to end so I wish it had gotten a little more recognition.

Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays Joins Enchanted Sequel DISENCHANTED as Villains

Two-time Primetime Emmy winner Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays are boarding Disenchanted, the Disney+ Enchanted sequel starring Amy Adams, Idina Menzel and James Marsden

Disney Studios’ President of Production Sean Bailey announced the sequel at Disney Investor Day back in December. Adams, Menzel and Marsden are reprising their respective roles of Giselle, Nancy and Prince Edward from the original film, with composer Alan Menken also returning. He said during a JLGB Virtual livestream that Marsden and Menzel would be returning for Disenchanted.

The 2007 live-action movie was a satire on Disney animated princess musicals, a fish-out-of-water tale about a cartoon princess who is submerged in modern-day New York City. Deadline hears Rudolph will play a villain in the sequel with Brown and Mays also potentially portraying evil as well.

Adam Shankman is directing for a production start later this spring. Producers are Barry Josephson, Adams, and Barry Sonnenfeld. Brigitte Hales is the most recent writer on the project, whose work got the sequel greenlit after 14 years.

The first movie, which grossed more than $340M WW, was nominated for three Oscars in the Best Song category for Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz’s tunes “Happy Working Song,” “So Close” and “That’s How You Know.”

Rudolph, who has won praise for her portrayal of VP Kamala Harris on SNL, next will star in a pair of animated films: Disney/Pixar’s Luca and Sony/Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

Brown played Shirley Bennett across 99 episodes of NBC’s comedy series Community. She stars opposite John Stamos on Disney+ series Big Shot.

Mays played Emma Pillsbury for 82 episodes of Glee and starred on Trial & Error and as Charlie Andrews on Heroes.

This type of sci-fi action movies are my jam but the teaser for The Tomorrow War was a big average meh with nothing to show or nothing to say about the plot or the tone. Hopefully the official full trailer will be much better.

Marvel Studios Reveals Phase 4 Sneak Peek with First Footage for ETERNALS and Official Titles for BLACK PANTHER 2 and CAPTAIN MARVEL 2

Marvel Studios has unveiled a few tidbits as well as its first Eternals footage in a sizzle reel intended to entice audiences to return to movie theaters as they reopen.

Marvel revealed that the upcoming sequel to Black Panther will be titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film, due out July 8, 2022, follows the untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman in July. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler reworked the script following Boseman's passing, and star Lupita Nyong'o noted recently, "the way which he has reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world."

Meanwhile, Captain Marvel II has been titled The Marvels. Once again starring Brie Larson, the film will also include teenage hero Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), who will first be introduced in her own Disney+ show. Actor Teyonah Parris, a breakout from WandaVision, also stars as Monica Rambeau. The Marvels, due out Nov. 11, 2022, is from filmmaker Nia Dacosta.

Marvel also set release dates for filmmaker Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is set for Feb. 17, 2023, and James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, due out May 5, 2023.

The sizzle reel includes the first footage from The Eternals, the Nov. 5 film from Oscar winning Nomadland filmmaker Chloé Zhao. It also features looks at Black Widow, which on July 9 becomes Marvel Studios' first theatrical release in two years, and the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, out Sept. 3.

Eternals looks very promising.

I didn’t realize Thor 4 was coming out before Guardians 3. That’s a little disappointing, was hoping to see more of Thor with the Guardians, but likely all we’ll get is maybe 15 minutes of the Guardians in Thor before they go their separate ways.

Wasn’t Guardians 3 supposed to be made first? Maybe it got held up between Gunn’s temporary firing followed by him doing Suicide Squad.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Actress Hannah John-Kamen to Star in Millenium's Sword and Sorcery Film RED SONJA

Hannah-John-Kamen-Red-Sonja-Getty-Split-H-2021-.jpg

Hannah John-Kamen, who starred as a villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp and was a lead in series Brave New World, will star in Millennium’s long-gestating sword and sorcery feature.

Joey Soloway is directing the project and co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo, the screenwriter who is showrunning and executive producing the upcoming animated Tomb Raider series for Netflix and Legendary.

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” said Soloway in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

Sonya was created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics’ Conan the Barbarian comic in the early 1970s and was an amalgam of several characters from Conan creator Robert E. Howard. The character, fiery and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Conan while refusing his advances, proved popular enough to get her own book, continuing to this day even as the Howard and Conan licenses have moved through several companies. Millennium is saying their movie is based on the comic published by Dynamite Entertainment.

The move is a big opportunity for John-Kamen, who has appeared in the Netflix series The Stranger, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, and Tomb Raider with Alicia Vikander but will now find herself toplining an ambitious feature and portraying a recognizable pop culture figure

The actress, who has garnered acclaim for her work across television, film and stage, recently wrapped production on Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City.

Blake Livey to Star in Dark Horse Comics Adaptation LADY KILLER; Diablo Cody to Pen the Screenplay

Horizontal_Split_1296_730_Preta-4-copy-1.jpg

Blake Lively and Diablo Cody have teamed up to adapt Lady Killer, a feature adaptation of a comic book from Dark Horse Comics. Lively will star and produce while Cody will write the project, which hails from Dark Horse Entertainment, the company behind the mega-popular Umbrella Academy series, THR has confirmed.

Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg will produce, as well as Kate Vorhoff. Lively and Vorhoff will produce via their B for Effort shingle.

The comic was written by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, with Jones, who made a splash writing and drawing Catwoman for DC, supplying the art. Jones took inspiration from 1950s advertisements to craft a story set in that period and that focused on a picture perfect housewife … who just happens to lead a secret life as a deadly killer for hire.

The comic first hit shelves in 2015 and even won an Eisner Award for best limited series in 2016.

The project keeps Lively in action mode, as she last toplined the revenge thriller The Rhythm Section.

Cody won an Oscar for penning the coming-of-age pregnancy movie Juno and counts Jennifer’s Body and Tuly on her résumé. She was nominated for a Tony Award for best book of a musical for Jagged Little Pill, based on the songs by Alanis Morissette.
