Muay Thai Gym Q&A

Hello,

I would like to fly to Bangkok for four weeks in November and train Muay Thai. It is important for me that there is an attached accommodation, with me a private room + bathroom and Wi-Fi sufficient. Ideally, the gym already has a set price scale.

If anyone has an updated idea or suggestions, I would be happy about it.

There's heaps in Bangkok, I'm trying Kiatphontip next year it has accommodation, food, and training package. The one that has the bathroom as ensuite is 1300 baht per day (including training, food, accommodation) for stays more than 2 weeks. They have cheaper options with share bathrooms etc. http://www.kiatphontipgym.com/rates/
If you Google Muay Thai camps Thailand a very good website should come up which gives you an idea on loads of different gyms.

One quick question out of interest, what size gloves do fighters usually wear for training(bag and pads) and what for sparring in Thai camps?
I have a pair for bags/pads currently 12oz but 10oz would be fine. I have a pair I keep for sparring 14oz, if your a big hitter go for 16oz. You don't want to be sparring with worn out gloves as they lose padding and it's disrespectful to your opponent.

Been hearing that for muay thai best gyms are in bangkok?

Just a rumor i heard
It's what my trainer says. If you want a good non tourist gym go Bangkok. If you want more western style go to tourist spot such as phuket.

I found several options for me:

1. https://www.muaythaifagroup.com/monthly-training: my favorite
2. http://www.kiatphontipgym.com/: looks good but too expensive
3. http://www.elitefightclub.com/bkk-prices/: i asked for accommodation but got no answer yet.
4. http://www.muaythaisasiprapa.com/news.php: I do not know why i took this one^^
5. https://mastertoddy.com/: second place but i am not sure to be honest.

Elite Fight Club is the worst gym I have ever trained at in Thailand. I’ve been to Thailand over 30 times. It was terrible.

When I first started looking I thought fa group for clinch. But looking at vids they posts it looks small they have too many trainers doing pad in ring at one time and not enough bags. But the clinch focus would be great. I seriously considered keathamtorn as they apparently have a good clinch game.

Just went through this whole thread again. I've been training for about two years, however I did not start taking things seriously until the past couple months. Due to this, I have a lot of mistakes to correct, but I wouldn't exactly say I'm a beginner. I'll be in Thailand for about two months (September thru the beginning of November); would gyms like Kaewsamrit, FA Group or Kiatphontip be accommodating to my skill level? I'm also considering Petchyindee, but after more research, it seems like they would want someone more advanced to be able to get the most out of it. I've heard similar things about Kaewsamrit, but from what I have been able to read about them, they cater to farang more so than other "hardcore" Thai gyms. My main goals are to build heavily on the basics and learn some new techniques.

The one in Bangkok or Phuket?

AKA and Tiger are my two worst gyms.

I liked Elite Bangkok because of working with Gae

When i saw the pictures o Elite gym, it was quite unappealing for me but i asked for accommodation anyway. FA is not answering, so they seem not very interested in foreigners to train there. I suppose, ill train at Master Toddys in November.

I'm finding following the gyms on Facebook helps you get a feel for a gym and it's balance of hardcore vs farang friendly. Some post vids of training etc which is good. Also read the reviews posted via Facebook too. There is no one perfect gym as everyone is after different things.

That is good advice, thank you!

Be back to training in Bangkok after 3 years away, and was looking at Mongkon Muay Thai at the Ambassador Hotel on Sukhumvit 11.
Anyone trained there before? The training doesn't look anything special "Trainers, fighters, Stadium Belts, etc" but hopefully I'll get a fight within 3 weeks https://mongkonacademy.com/about-us/

The gym at the Ambassador is fine for a pop in, but I wouldn’t wouldn’t want to stay long term.

It's just for convenience if anything. Spend time with the misses (shop, cinema, dinning), organize rings and my suit for our wedding and finally get some training and a fight (hopefully).
