Lay Down Sally is a truly great track and I like most of his work as a member of Cream and Traffic, along with some of his 90s era solo stuff, but I have to agree.

He’s amongst the most overrated figures in the history of rock. He’s merely a passable vocalist and lacks the sonic trademark as a lead guitarist that guys like Hendrix, Brian May, the Edge (just to name a few) had.

And sadly I can’t say that his political stance comes as a surprise to me, given that I’ve never thought him to be the genius that many of his fans have billed him as

His best stuff is with Cream and that's because of Ginger Baker.

Truth. He get's praise because of the bands he was in that had some hits, but as a guitarist, I can't think of one riff that stands out.

I’m not a huge Clapton guy, but sunshine of your love has a pretty iconic riff, and crossroads is a pretty good guitar jam too.
