Not only is the BJJ teaching going great, but there's a big chance that I'll become the permanent no-gi coach moving forward. Our black belt has been offered a full-time teaching position with good $$$ so he might switch gym.
If that's the case, I want to implement a full-out 10th planet curriculum, including the warm-ups. We'll produce killers. There isn't a 10th planet in a 1,200 km radius.​

Went to a different gym open mat with my coach. Aced it against the blues and purples, super happy. Then the final boss.... a 3rd degree black belt with 20+ years of experience. Put on a clinic on me, I felt like a white belt.

Next target is Provincials on January 22.

Attended a Leglock seminar and, of course, me and my buddy are the only ones that show up without a gi. 3 times this month I visit a gym and everybody's in the gi. Had a blast nonetheless, and a solid week of training overall.

Started working on inversions per my coach's advice. Worked out good a few times, then I inverted straight into a kneebar on a purple belt. I'm sold, will be working on inversions for the next little while.

It was awesome to have so much mat time during the holidays. Also started a morning routine; low daily volume, but it adds up over the whole week and it increases every week. Well, it finally happened. I caught the stupid Rona. It was like the worst flu I ever had. Sitting in a ball for two days, freezing and shaking while sweating bullets. Everything has been aching for a couple of days, from my hip flexors to my joints to my bones to my fingers. I'm still not 100%, but I'm much better. I got a negative Covid test on Tuesday when the symptoms started, but when I got through the worst of it, on Friday, I got a second test which was positive. Now I have to isolate myself for another 7 days.

The timing sucks because I have provincials on the 22nd but I'm not even that bothered. I just want to rest and start feeling healthy again to attack this new year the way I planned to. On the positive side, it gives me time to read a lot which is one of my main goals this year. Finished The Stranger (Camus) and now I'm on to Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky).

 
Best of luck on quick and full recovery. It changes the way you respond to peoples opinions.

Weirdest situation happened on Saturday. I registered for this competition over a month ago when it was announced. Trained for it, booked the hotel, packed my stuff and as I go to leave my parkade, the overhead door wouldn't open! I couldn't get my car out of the parkade, and I had a 3 hrs drive to Calgary to make it on time... By the time it was repaired (>3hrs), I couldn't physically make it there on time. Pretty pissed because I was really looking forward to it.

Next comp is Feb 5th. I'm more excited for this one because it's SUB ONLY!

I'm really bummed out for losing my match at Kingdom. Thought I did really well and tried to play my game; 2 electric chairs attempts, a rubber guard attempt, a straight ankle lock (from outside Ashi though), rolling kneebar. But... fought a bigger and stronger wrestler. I was doing well when I had my guard up, but once he passed my legs I couldn't recover to guard. We went the full 6 min, but he caught me RNC in overtime.

On the flip side, I'm the official No-gi coach at Wolfhouse now!! Monday-Friday at 6 pm. I'm teaching the 10thplanet system! I'm pumped to finally immersing myself in the 10p stuff and I think we'll be a huge force to reckon with within a few months. There's no 10p gym in Alberta, the closest one is Vancouver 13 hrs drive, so we'll be showing up with crazy techniques that people won't know how to deal with. I'll need to find a way to keep improving my own game too, cause I want to get much better in competitions.

So I bought a GI after giving in to my coach's pressure. Tried it for a few weeks about 10 years ago and hated it. This time is no different. I'll keep it so that I can cover his classes when he is gone, but I doubt it will become a part of my routine to train with the gi.

Great week of training and coaching. The 10th planet system I'm teaching is undoubtedly advanced to the outside eyes, so the guys sometimes give me a perplexed look after I show them a technique. But, after they work on it for 10-15 mins, they buy right into it and see how simultaneously cool and efficient it is. Makes me proud when I see them hit an electric chair sweep, dogfight, a twister, or a pass I showed them. I can't wait for them to start showing off in competitions.

Earned two stripes on my blue belt, so I'm officially halfway to my purple belt. I'm about 6 months in which is perfect, I figured it would take a year to get to purple.

More importanter, I got Bronze at the LSS no-gi open!! I won 3 matches and lost 1. I got two ankle locks and a beautiful double-foot gogoplata in the bronze finale. I can't wait to share the highlight. I'm so happy I finally got to showcase a sick 10th Planet submission in a tournament setting!!

Why the switch to bw from 531? I ask because i made the opposite switch ( bw to 531)
