News Reug Reug to appeal fight decision

As well he should. No matter what you think of the punch (and to me it looked like a pretty amazing flop) I don't think someone should win by tko for a shot that lands after the bell.
You always win by TKO when the other fighter doesn't want to continue. Which is what happened here, he was pretending to be hurt so he said he wouldn't go on to try to milk a DQ win. Fucking pathetic. They should cut him from ONE in disgrace.

Yeah embarrassing load of shite.. funny though

Guys in these other organizations need to realize how bad this looks. I imagine Reug Reug and Lapicus will probably never fight in the UFC after pulling shit like this.

There’s no commercials on youtube.
I can't seem to find the main card on Youtube, just the prelims.

I can find the Reug Reug fight on its own, but that doesn't have the footage I want, namely, Reug Reug after the fight ending sequence when the ref officially called the fight off.

So Reug goes down and stays down for the 1 minute of rest between rounds.

After a minute a whistle is blown and it's time to start Round 3. But Reug can't/won't get up.

The referee starts pressuring Reug saying "I need to know right now whether you can continue or not", but Reug won't move and is given an additional 90 seconds to recover (which I don't think you're allowed to do).

After those 90 seconds the referee says something to someone outside the cage and then waves off the fight. He then walks over to Grishenko and pats him on the stomach, basically saying "don't worry about it". Grishenko is announced the winner.

At this time about 4 minutes has passed and Reug is still on the floor, now surrounded by medical personal. Grishenko goes to check on him, then we cut to the promo for Alvarez/OK.

They were never at that level anyways. Not going on that hyperbolic "UFC level" nonsense but those two are very low level fighters.

Lapicus didn't look far off against Gafurov to be fair.

They released Pedro Nobre for this reason.

Okay. Maybe a bit of a harsh claim towards him. He might be able hang in the UFC. Definitely not Reug reug though. This guy would get blasted out by the likes of De Castro, Felipe and Danho.

Yeah I think even the likes of Harry Hunsucker would be too much.

They hype on Reug Reug was fun while it lasted, but you knew his time was going to come, he is just way to raw. Also, he's supposed to be a grappling specialist and he didn't even know how to go for under hooks last night. He got exposed in both grappling and his stiff stand up. That said, had their been another minute left in that first round it would have been interesting, he was about to do what he does best, ground and pound, but the bell had other plans!

there was never any real hype like he was gonna be an elite level fighter. It was more like a Kimbo or Pudz.

One matched him terribly though. Needed that Rich Chou matchmaking giving him complete scrubs for atleast 2 years to build up a record and experience.

One thing about Lapicus is that he only ever fought at Welterweight before joining ONE. I question whether he could make 155 proper because he's giant and never has.

In other similar cases like Moraes, Wakamatsu, Ok, Nastyukhin etc you get people making the really terrible argument that the ex UFC guy was matched up with giants that came from higher weight classes. The reality is each guy had weighed in at the proper class outside of ONE, or inside of ONE pre new weight system. Sure, they could have bulked up because they had 10/15 less pound to cut but the same was always also true of the ex UFC guy.

I bet he could beat some of these lower level DWCS guys that get brought in because they got a knockout but I doubt he's even top 50 worldwide.

Does anyone know where Reug Reug's gym is? They said on the broadcast it's called Black Panther Sports but nothing seems to come up when I Google it. His tapology page says he fights out of Senegal but I found an article saying he lives in Hong Kong now (didn't say anything about his gym though)

How does a pro fighter train at a gym that's basically ungoogleable?

No bell when it's for keeps. And so what if he was hit in the throat? Is that illegal now too?

Illegal to hit the throat on purpose, basically fine if it's accidental. I've never seen it before.

I think Reug Reug didn't like how the fight was going and he was looking for a way out. I know MMA fans say this shit every time a fight ends with a foul or something strange, but I really think it applies here. It seems obvious to me that, in a split second, he noticed that the punch was thrown at the bell (he thought it was after the bell) and he milked it for all it was worth. He thought it would be a No Contest, but the referee, surprisingly, made the right call in calling it a TKO. The replay shows that the punch grazed his upper chest/collar bone, it didn't even land on his throat.

Can't think of a worse performance and aftermath to derail your hype train in recent memory. Sure, I know most people didn't think he would be UFC champion or anything... but honestly, this whole situation is extremely pathetic. I would have had more respect and hope for Reug Reug and his future if he had just went on to lose a decision. ONE's "anonymous panel" recently made the right decision in overturning Eddie Alvarez's DQ loss to a No Contest so I have faith that they'll make the right decision with this fight as well.
