Hey guys.

As you've no doubt noticed I haven't updated the club these last few days. And the basic gist of the issue is that I don't think I have the time or the energy to take this club through another cycle. Sorry to end it all as abruptly as this, but it just seems timely to end it before starting another go-around.

Needless to say, we've been on a pretty steady downwards spiral for quite a while now. Interest and activity just isn't what it used to be. But at 5 years and 268 weeks, it's been a pretty good run! Later on I'll try to author some post summarizing the stats of our little club, like how many members nominated a movie, who nominated the most (*cough* @MusterX *cough*), and such-such!

But if anyone wants to take over the reins and keep the club running, go ahead! There is also the possibility of trying to get it restarted some months or even years down the line, when the concept would seem fresher again.

We should start a Sherdog adult movies club.

Tell Tufts I love her that her dogs are cute, will you?:D

Your flick Last Exit to Brooklyn was one of the best flicks I discovered in the SMC, so cheers for that Cubo!;)

Will do and I'm happy that you enjoyed it so much.

By the way, they're my dogs too. ;)

If nobody wants to take on this endeavor then I might be interested. Would depend a lot on what @MusterX thinks.

You're the real MVP, buddeh. Thank you for all of your hard work over the years to keep this club afloat. I wish I didn't have to step back when I did, but it is what it is.

While I wasnt in the club long, I had fun while it was around! THanks for the good times europe, even if it was short lived.

Here are 20 of my favorite unexpectedly good films we watched. These are not the big block busters but rather films a little more obscure in most cases that I feel anyone might enjoy.

In no particular order.

1. Valhalla Rising (2009) Mads transformed into a scar laden pagan warrior fighting in a land dark as night.
MV5BNzA0MDE5OTI3N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzk3MjE2Mw@@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

2. Victoria (2015) Shot all on one take, its a high stakes claustrophobic ride.
MV5BMTc5NzQzNjk2NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODU0MjI5NjE@._V1_UY209_CR1,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

3. Primer (2004) Shot for only $7,000, Primer is a time traveling mind warp that is ingenious in its construction.
MV5BNjc3OWVjMTItYjc0Yi00NmFlLTk2YTgtYmU0MzcxMjBkNTYxXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTQxNzMzNDI@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

4. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton play maybe the best married couple that hate each other ever and the twist at the end is worth the wait.
MV5BMjQ5ODI1MjQtMDc0Zi00OGQ1LWE2NTYtMTg1YTkxM2E5NzFkXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTA4NzY1MzY@._V1_UX140_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

5. Pi (1998) Pi is what happens when you combine Jewish mysticism with mathematics and the God code shot in grainy black and white.

6. Edge of Tomorrow (2014) This film proves that even at age 50 Tom Cruise can still carry an action film.
MV5BMTc5OTk4MTM3M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODcxNjg3MDE@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

7. Black Swan (2010) I never would have watched this if not for the club.
MV5BNzY2NzI4OTE5MF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjMyNDY4Mw@@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

8. They Live (1988) Pertinent in today's world, some joke its a documentary. One of the most epic fight scenes of all time.
MV5BMTQ3MjM3ODU1NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMjU3NDU2MTE@._V1_UX140_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

9. North by Northwest (1959) More tremendous than I thought a film from the 1950's could be. The bi-plane scene is ridiculously awesome.
MV5BZDA3NDExMTUtMDlhOC00MmQ5LWExZGUtYmI1NGVlZWI4OWNiXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjc1NTYyMjg@._V1_UX140_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

10. Mulholland Drive (2001) Even after three viewings I discover new details. This was Lynch at his peak.
MV5BMWE0NDYyOTMtODBkZC00NDBmLTk2ZTAtNGIxNjgxNzdhYTAyXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNzM0MTUwNTY@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

11. Blue Ruin (2013) Low budget Indy film that is far better than it has any right to be.
MV5BMTY4NTM2MDg5OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDA3OTAwMTE@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

12. Persona (1966) I don't know where I begin and Persona ends.
MV5BMTM0YzExY2EtMjUyZi00ZmIwLWFkYTktNjY5NmVkYTdkMjI5XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNzQxNDExNTU@._V1_UY209_CR2,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

13. Triangle (2009) Horror with a twist, or is it a turn, and then another turn, and then another turn...
MV5BY2VlODI5ZmMtZDExYS00OWI4LWJiMWItZWZkZWRkNzlmZWI2XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTQxNzMzNDI@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

14. Frozen River (2008) Another low budget Indy film that illustrates that good film doesn't have to be financed with 50 million dollars.
MV5BMTk2NjMwMDgzNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDY0NDY3MQ@@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

15. Chopper (2000) This film makes you laugh, then shocks the ever loving shit out of you, the makes you laugh again.
MV5BYjFhYWQyNTUtN2EwMy00ZDNiLTkyYjYtYjk2NGY5ZTc2YzIwXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTAyODkwOQ@@._V1_UY209_CR1,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

16. American Movie (1999) A doc about 2 guys trying to make a film. Do yourself a favor and watch this one.
MV5BMjMxMDFhYzQtZDZmZS00ZDBjLWIzY2QtNDBiMDQ5YjBlNTk1XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTAyODkwOQ@@._V1_UX140_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

17. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) This film has almost a unique sense of style, color, and lighting.
MV5BMzM5NjUxOTEyMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjEyMDM0MDE@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

18. Pan's Labyrinth (2007) A fairy tale told during a war that hurtles toward a potentially horrifying end.
MV5BMTU3ODg2NjQ5NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDEwODgzMQ@@._V1_UY209_CR1,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

19. Coherence (2013) A well played hand of cards involving many worlds, or quantum theory, or time travel, something uncomfortable.
MV5BNzQ3ODUzNDY2M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzg0ODY2MTE@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

20. Birdman (2014) Maybe the peak of Michael Keaton's career. This film is tremendous on so many levels.
MV5BODAzNDMxMzAxOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDMxMjA4MjE@._V1_UY209_CR0,0,140,209_AL_.jpg

Aren't you... aren't you *still* supposed to respond to Bullitt's Steven Segal week, Henry?;)

Thanks for all you put into keeping this going! Found some really great movies in this club and enjoyed reading the reviews

Thanks Zer for virtually always participating!:D

By the way, they're my dogs too. ;)

Sure penguin!

If nobody wants to take on this endeavor then I might be interested. Would depend a lot on what @MusterX thinks.

The keys to the Kingdom are yours!

You're the real MVP, buddeh. Thank you for all of your hard work over the years to keep this club afloat. I wish I didn't have to step back when I did, but it is what it is.

Please jeicex! Stay in character and respond 4 weeks down the line!:p

Nah, but thanks a lot for all the generous help in running it partner! And the invaluable help your excellent spreadsheet has provided.;)

Damn, Shadow Priest getting the Moe Greene treatment!

Go back to the first weeks and check. There was now Shadow Priest around. It was all me from the beginning:cool:

Yeah I should have mentioned him. But I'm so averse to doing things in a way that feels official or reverential. In my mind it was always such a recreational activity.

While I wasnt in the club long, I had fun while it was around! THanks for the good times europe, even if it was short lived.

Yeah the story of your entire membership was basically: "Wrong timing. Way, way wrong timing." You'd have found the first 200 weeks much more stimulating.:D

Sorry for never responding to your Days of Thunder week. But I just loath, LOATH that movie that I couldn't bear to sit through it again.

Thanks for all the work you put in @europe1

Lots of great movies and reviews from movies I never would have seen otherwise.

Thanks for your undying loyalty, nominator of Shot Caller and Owning Mahoney, two movies that very likely will be appearing on my great discoveries list:cool:

The keys to the Kingdom are yours!

Thanks, brother. I'll never fill your shoes, but I'm happy to try to keep things going.

For now we're on a hiatus while things are reorganized under new management. In the meantime, if people have ideas on how to improve the participation and experience please share.

Been pretty AFK from SD but wanted to extend my congratulations on the SMC for surviving as long as it did!

My favourites of the movies I'd never seen before:
1. Aguirre
2. Ran
3. They Live
4. Mother
5. Bone Tomahawk
6. The Name of the Rose
7. Hard Boiled
8. To Live and Die in L.A.
9. What We do in the Shadows
10. Primer

Bravo E1 for keeping this thing going
