Well just like Iraq, China swoops in and takes the spoils after Murica is done with the place. I guess the whole Muslim brotherhood bullshit by Taliban takes a backseat to their new sugar daddy.
Peshawar:

Describing China as its "most important partner", the Afghan Taliban has said it looks to Beijing to rebuild Afghanistan and exploit its rich copper deposits as the war-ravaged country faces widespread hunger and fears of an economic collapse.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the group supports China's One Belt, One Road initiative that seeks to link China with Africa, Asia and Europe through an enormous network of ports, railways, roads and industrial parks.

"China is our most important partner and represents a fundamental and extraordinary opportunity for us because it is ready to invest and rebuild our country," Geo News quoted Mujahid as saying in an interview to an Italian newspaper on Thursday.

There are "rich copper mines in the country, which, thanks to the Chinese, can be put back into operation and modernised. In addition, China is our pass to markets all over the world," said Zabihullah Mujahid.

Leaving afghanistan completely just seems like the worst decision ever when you bring china into the context.

In any other circumstance id consider it a good idea.

We will find out in the next 10 years which country Chernobyl'd itself, US with Afghanistan or China with the Wuhan labs.

China will be reverse engineering the equipment America left behind.
Imagine thinking that China needs this equipment to reverse engineer/learn from. Odds are most countries already have this intel gained via hacking/other methods and/or have already developed more sophisticated military equipment on their own.

They don't need to go to Afghanistan for that... already been done:

They are there to exploit their natural resources, and add another country to their list of debt-trap diplomacy victims.

It's their country, they can do whatever they want with it.

Want to hurt China? Stop buying their shit.
Hell yeah.

We Americans are hypocrites because we complain about China yet willing buy loads of cheap shit from them that inevitably breaks or wears out.

But onto the topic, I feel like it should been obvious that China was going to form some of relationship with the newly established regime in Afghanistan.

It's all about the $2 - $3 Trillion worth of Lithium in the ground.

China Joe just paid off his benefactors with the way he withdrew.
It’s starting to look like that. China Biden basically handed China trillions of dollars under the guise of safely pulling out. Which is wasn’t, pulling out cost American lives and reputation to allies. But hey, at least Mr.Sleepy paid off his overlords.

'he handed trillions to China' is such a disingenuous take unless you are pro- indefinite occupation.

The usual suspects are in this thread to miss the mark by a mile with their godawful hot takes. The US and China already have massive lithium deposits, so it's not exactly critical for us to take hold of it. Also, we're not in great standing with the Taliban, so I'm not surprised they gave mineral access to their literal neighboring country instead. The only way we could've held those minerals down is likely through continued war.

This is exactly how the US gets pulled into and ends up continuing forever wars. Bullshit outrage over headlines like this.

I mean what did you expect? Their former sugar daddy just spent the last 20 years trying to murder them despite the taliban going out of their way to appease them. While AQ had camps in Afghanistan they planned 9/11 in Europe as the Taliban had made them agree not to plan terrorist attacks in their borders. After 9/11 they were also willing to hand over Bin Laden to the Hague and offered unconditional surrender after a few months of fighting in 2001 or 2002. Both of these offers were denied and not widely circulated as they lead people to the conclusion the war of Afghanistan was fought over nothing as the enemy was willing to give us what we wanted.

Want to make clear I am speaking strictly of the Talibans relationship with the US and am not condoning the Talibans religious ideology and all the people killed as a result(unlike the US pre 9/11). The Taliban are one of many brutal regimes the US supported during the Cold War and still supports(Saudi Arabia the country were Bin Laden was from are also extreme but they are "allies" and while they likely played a role in 9/11, Bush and Obama have refused to let that information out against the wishes of Congress). But given all that transpired when the Taliban were in the US orbit and ended up living in caves for 20 years of course they are going to change to the Chinese. Also the Chinese strategy for bribing the loyalty of weaker countries is building up infrastructure as opposed to the US strategy of changing the government. And even before the 20 year war Afghanistan was in desperate need of infrastructure never mind afterwards.

Everyone is still diluded into thinking they’re nutjobs who want to take over the world when in reality, they’re Afghan nationalist. Let’s see if that perception changes in the next 5 years with China helping them gain recognition and all.
