Traditional gifts between Student and teacher

Many years ago I read an article in a super old martial arts magazine and it was talking about how you would traditionally go about asking a a Kru or Ajarn to train some years back in Thailand.

I believe you would go with incense and flowers blessed by a monk and then approach the teacher, how and offer? But I am not one hundred percent sure exactly as it was a long time ago that I read this.

Figured someone here might know. Super cool aspect of the sport that seems forgotten in many regards

3 sticks of incense, small amount of uncooked rice (1/2 cup), a piece of fruit and dry natural flowers. These items are put in a bowl and presented to the teacher.
