Who You Got?

I think Tre looked pretty solid. Hard to do much chasing your opponent around. He has a pretty massive build and very powerful kicks. I think he clipped ryder pretty good a couple times with the hands as well. Ryder was very unimpressive. Volks team better figure out something or it will get ugly

So who was trying to get/give info? con-fused

There's a guy on Ortega's team who has trained with Ryder (who is on Volk's team). Since Tre is on Ortega's team, he was training with that guy and asking for any possible info on Ryder. The guy wouldn't give anything away. Basically just said 'he's a good wrestler.'

I'm not sure if the show is purposely making it look a certain way but at first glance it looks like team Volkanovski came for an extended fight camp to prepare for Brian Ortega and team Ortega is actually out there trying to build new fighters.

Like all the Ortega footage is of him teaching his fighters new and interesting things with newer techniques like taping lines on the floor for his non-english speaker to show take-down angles, breaking down practice into slices of "pizza" so it's easier to digest.

Then you flip to team Volk and it's just footage of him holding pads being a cheerleader like "OY THAT WAS GREAT YOU GONNA GET HIM WITH THAT ONE MATE" then his fighter gets rekt. Not sure if this is the case and the show is making it look like that, but man it really do look like Team Ortega is getting better instruction.

And judging by that weird interaction/foreshadowing about Pretty Ricky Turcios not wanting to be on Ortega's team I'm calling it now he's going to be the only one who wins on team Volkanosvski.

Damn this episode felt like most of the last decade of TUF in general. Really safe and too much respect for each other leading to a very apprehensive fight.

It’s 2021 you would think they would fill the house with a bunch of Sean O’Malley/Mike Perry types at this point. I’m sure they could find some capable idiots who want some attention.

Sounds like a drab episode again, but Gore winning seemed the most likely for me. I have a soft spot for people who are actually going to stay in the division they are representing, and having fought at 205lbs before Gore seems a natural MW. Just watched the fight highlights, typical 2-round 'nothing happened' TUF fight post 2013/14 or so.

I've completely lost interest in this season already tbh. I'll try and soldier on with it in the hope it gets good, but I haven't found anything entertaining about it so far.

They need to give Craig Jones some more screen time.

If you’re gonna bring back a series that fizzled out as hard as TUF, you’d think there would be some changes to make it more interesting.

Yeah, it's literally just the same shit. At some point they seemed to decide to discourage bad behaviour from the fighters, but the seasons where they were getting drunk, smashing the house up and getting into altercations were the best ones.

Who the fuck wants to watch them go "I respect you bro", "Much love brother, I respect you too" all episode?

I guess my thing is that if they don’t want to embrace the house drama and shenanigans, at least be better at the vibe they’re going for.

If they want this to be an educational/insightful show, gives us more about the training, weight cuts etc. get into the technical stuff. Tell us more about fight prep. I could get behind that. Show me Brian Ortega coaching these guys in BJJ. Show me volk explaining pressure fighting to a young up and comer, and show me how he processes it and applies it. I’d be SO down for that.

Instead they shifted from “jersey shore” to “America’s got talent” and the other corny shows like American ninja warrior. You know, those shows that try to pray on emotions.

What’s crazy is we used to say that with contender series and TUF both running the talent level was too thin. Some of these guys are decent. I think the ufc is just not doing a great job with the show.

It's good for snippets and the scrap. Otherwise it's very recycled and not all that interesting. I watch for training bits and the fight. I can't even find much to comment on (other than the fight).

Would rather Looking for Fight format or the best... Contender Series.

Won't complain tho... It's interesting enough and 45 min so meh...

No idea how to spice it up.

It's done. If you were a 6-0 top prospect, would you rather:

1) Go and have to live in a reality TV house with 15 other blokes for 6 weeks, make weight 3-4 times and maybe still fail to make the final?

2) Go on DWCS, fight a 6-2 opponent and have a 90% of getting a UFC contract with 15mins of work?

DWCS has made TUF obselete, I'm stunned it's been revived and not surprised to hear it's stale and boring.

“It got offered to me and Darren Till, and instantly I said no,” Adesanya told Flagrant 2. “Personally, I don’t want cameras in my face that much and I don’t want to be stuck in Vegas for that long. I mean, what does it take to make good reality TV? Drama, a lot of drama and I’m a troll, Darren’s a troll. I feel like I would have to go to the lowest form of myself. The pranks that they’d play, I could go lower. And people don’t understand like, I take the high road a lot, but when it’s time to go low, limbo.”

The coaching slots instead went to UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and top 145-pound contender Brian Ortega. Just three episodes into the combat sports reality show and “T-City” is already up 3-0 in the preliminary fights.

Now Till and Izzy!

We can't have nice things....

To differentiate TUF vs Contender series

Having TUF be specialists, using the time on TUF to cross train, and then we get tournament with truly different styles (Actual BJJ exclusive guy with 4 weeks striking training vs strict Boxer with 4 weeks takedown defense training) now that would be something. And the guy who can adjust his specialty the best to mixed martial arts would be the one win the tournament and get his spot in the UFC with a unique style.

And then their time on the show, they would actually need it to be trained up in the other aspects. Whereas the 6-1 prospects are getting just fine training where they are. So may as well do their normal camp and just have a fight in front of Dana and hope they can wow him with what they already have
